I'll probably be heading over
I'll probably be heading over sometime after the kids finish school, 12th onwards depending on the weather. Probably back at work about the 20th.
Had a couple of 3 day trips last year in January so if you pick your time Paul you'll get it.
Knocking over a few jobs on the new boat before its first run over.

G'day Paul
I'm pretty keen to tag along, too. As long as the weather is ok and a couple of planets line up ....we always do boxing day with the out-laws and the other half of the family so should be able to make the 27th.
Look forward to your updates over the coming weeks, thanks.

All persons thinking of
All persons thinking of joining the trip to the islands must contact fisheries Geralton and get a faxed or emailed out of season permit form .Fill it in and send back, they will stamp it and send it back to you, as you will need to have this stamped copy on your person if fisheries come and pay a call .You will be fined if you don't have one [I learnt the hard way$100 fine. ] Also a ban on baldchin will be in place for the period we are there ,so all baldies must be looked after and returned to the water .All other demersals and palagics are good.Remember fisheries will close on the 23rd december so don't leave it till the last minute. I will leave it to the individuals to know the bag and size limits for the islands and the no fish areas. All can be found on there website.Cheers lets hope the weather is good

off season notification
a couple of years back there was a writeup in our local rag about how one of the island cray fishermen who had assisted WA Fisheries over the years with research runs to the islands taking WAF-was fined for not submitting one while taking Fisheries staff over gratis!
Now he doesnt do it anymore!

Permits, etc
Hi guys
Thanks Paul for the info relating to an 'out of season permit' for the Abrolhos Islands. I contacted the Geraldton office today (ph. 9921 6800) and they emailed me a copy of the permit. Fairly straight forward questionaire (1 permit per boat) which must be completed and returned the them, whereby they'll review it, stamp it and return it to you. As Paul said, it must be kept with you at all times while over on the islands.
Also, a couple of publications worth checking out are the 'Abrolhos Islands Information Guide' available here: http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/Fishing-and-Aquaculture/Recreational-Fishing/Recreational-Fishing-Rules/Pages/West-Coast-Marine-Reserves.aspx then find the heading 'Fish Habitat Protection Areas', where underneath you'll see the link to the guide below the heading 'Abrolhos Island Fish Habitat Protection Area'.
The other publication is the 'Recreational Fishing Guide - West Coast Bioregion', available here: http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/Fishing-and-Aquaculture/Recreational-Fishing/Recreational-Fishing-Rules/Pages/West-Coast-Bioregion.aspx look for the link to the guide, directly below the map of WA, where you'll find all the info about the bag limits for all species as well as the closed season for baldies, allowable quantities of fish being brought back from the islands, etc.
Hope this helps.
Looking forward to this trip.

chasing a little info on where to anchor up at night whilst over there.
Have seen the pics where you moore up Paul, but expect there will be a few baots and looks like limited room.
Given its summer, and likely to be easterly winds in the morning and SE-SW winds in the arvo, where around the southern group would be good for Anchoring / Mooring up?

Ok We are leaving Yanchep at
Ok We are leaving Yanchep at 6pm,on the 26th December and returning to perth the early on the 31st December .We can stop over at jurien bay for the night( I am happy to drive straight through ),as one of the guys coming over has offered us a stop over at his house, I would think you would need to sleep on your boat or on the front lawn. This would mean an early start for Gero the next morning.
I have a yard for us to put the cars and trailers it is fully fenced and locked, You park there at you own risk .A lot better than them left at the marina .I am the only one with a key and can,t be given it to anyone heading back before me, if you are only there for a couple of days try Ray White they have a fenced area ,I think it $20 but you need to Let them know well in advance to get a key.Anyone heading over should have a look at google earth and see where the mooring and bays are as there could already be boats in the bay I stay at. And a plan B may be needed. A star picket and hammer is a good accessory Hit the star picket into the shore and tie to it with your second anchor out back .You need all fuel ,water and ice as you can not depend on others to be giving up the supplies Make sure your boat and safety gear is all in good condition as in choppy conditions it can be a rough trip over. once there you can always find shelter from the wind ...If you need any other advice pm me.Weather permiting who is definitely going. And do you think there is any need to get together for a chat before the trip.

Decision time?
Hi Paul
When will you make a decision about when to head off? Is it safe to assume that you've cancelled the Boxing day drive to Geraldton, in favour of next Thursday/Friday?
I really only need a day's notice, as I'm 85% ready now, and beavering away at my 'things to do before we leave' list.

weather
I hope your forecast is right Paul (dont know who you use) but BOM has changed xmas/boxing day from 39/41 (which means little wind or easterlies) to 33/30 and windy.
Very generally here in summer temps under 30 mean seabreezes and over 30 mean fresh easterlies and/or calm.
