advice needed - a liquid rubber coating to seal a shed
Submitted by Wahoo on Sat, 2011-11-05 14:27
G'day all, I'm declaring war on my stratco garden shed and thinking of spraying it with liquid rubber around the bottom section so as to prevent water from entering. The shed's on a concrete pad and I've siliconed around the base numerous times but water still gets in through the corrugated lip. I've even siliconed the corrugated lip and it's spaces.
Has anyone used a spray/brush on liquid rubber that also seals up gaps? Brand? Store?
Many thanks

Is the water getting in at the bottom only? Not dripping down the inside by any chance? Could it be easier to put a bit of flashing on the inside of the corrugated sheet then seal that. E.g. L angle galvabond or colourbond on the inside, then it would only need one line of silicone round the inside at the base to seal it up? Not sure if my explanation makes sense?

I put black plastic on my slab then put garden pavers on the inside of the shed. Never had a problem with dampness or mould

Without seeing the job
my first thoughts would be to mix some cement and border the internal walls 50mm high or so on a slant back maybe 100-150mm...just bondcrete the existing surface first....should hold better than silicone rubber etc

Check your silicone first,
Check your silicone first, you might need a proper construction mastic if your doing a high build. Get a big sausage tube of Sika grey and go hard, after that Bitkote the shit out of it. Both available at Bunnings.

Standard roof plumbers
Standard roof plumbers silicone, Just the cheap grey shit. Needs to be applied correctly tho just running a straight bead of silicone will look nice but wont adhere properly. It needs to be welded or rubbed in correctly or eventualy the silastic will seperate from your surface and leak. If ya know a roof plumber get em to show ya or utube. All the silastik in the world wont hold if its just beaded on but will do the job if layed on thick and welded in
