Advice on rod

Im interested in finding a rod that has a blank 6'long or thereabouts, with a medium/fast taper. I would be using it for light spinning, estuary & ocean probably using braid of 4 kilo or thereabouts. Id also be interested in using it with smallish soft plastics. Any advice appreciated. Cool

If I can get some idea of what better ones there are around, I'll have a look and see how I go, a few hundred isn't out of the question...

A few hundred is a starting point! LOL

So fast/medium taper, 6' long and rated around the 2-4kg / 2-5kg mark?

There are tons of options and price points! Whatever you choose, take your reel and put it on the roid to feel for balance.

What reel you using out of interest?

Mate, I may be putting the cart before the horse so to speak as I do want to take a reel along as you say, to match it up. I want to get a FD Stella maybe unless you can suggest something else a bit cheaper. Im all ears mate...

I do have other smaller reels that I  will put on a rod if I find one.. and I know it may be a silly question to ask with regards to the road, I'm guessing there will be a lot of blanks that fit the bill.

I only went with those specs because when I built a few rods a long time ago, by far the best light spin blank was a FMT72L, I don't remember who built those ones at that time.

Other options for those smaller (2500 size) reels are the Twinpower. I myself am getting one (a japanese model - Twinpower C3000) so maybe thats one to look into.

As for rods, you can check out the eupro/hearty rise selections at Oceanside (SOR) or Tackleshack (NOR). The G-Loomis GL2 should be around the $250 mark. T-Curves around the $250 - $300 mark.

For what its worth, IMO there is no point buying a rolls royce reel like a Stella ($870) to put it on a cheap Hyundai rod like a Starlo Stix ($120). You are much better off getting a good reel (Twinpower $400) and a good rod (like suggested above).

I hear you mate, i will have a look at those rods, as for the stella, I sort of thought that I could use it on that setup and others as I build my collection, so in that sense would probably be worth it. I'll definently have a look at the twinpower and others, thanks again mate.

I have heard the Nitros are a good bit of kit. I knew there would be a lot of options as far as rods go, but it dosn't hurt to get advice, particularly if people are using them.

6ft is too short

I do a lot of the above and my pick ATM is probably my GL3 loomis with a branzino on it running 15lb braid. This cast well and is about 6'6 from memory. I can get you the code if you want. Failing that and going a bit shorter I really like the top range pfleuger spin - i think it is called light offshore. I run a 2500 reel on mine and had a blast today on stiped tuna up to 4kg of Lano. Bit heavier than the loomis, more a 6-8kg blank where the loomis is a 4-6.

Loomis sounds good, don't go out of your way but yeh if you could send the model number that would be great. I've just googles the hearty rise, they look like a quality rod too.
