Advice on seeker boat
Hi all,
Just after some quick advice on a new seeker (seeker) boat. I'm looking at . 20ft centre console hull from the mid-late 70's with a 10yr old tohatsu 90 on the back (100hrs)
The transom and boat floor have been redone recently and the condition of the boat is pretty mint (I thought it was much newer until I was told). It comes with all electronic's and I'm planning on doing a couple of minor upgrades to suit myself. Otherwise it has all the safety gear and the trailer is just as good as the boat.
I'm sold on the boat and will get a surveyor to assess the hull before I buy however my only problem is what a suitable purchase price should be. I can't really find too many other seekers for sale and those which are have a condition and asking price lower than the one I am looking at. I can buy for $19k which is a little more than I think the boat is worth however I'm reasonably happy to spend that coin if I get a good boat out of it....IF
Can anyone offer any advice on the quality of seeker boats and anything I should be looking out for?? As mentioned the hull will be surveyed before purchasing
Thanks

Hi mate
without seeing the boat its a bit hard to judge but 19k sounds like the top end of pricing
as a vote of confidence, the seekers i have seen appear to be really well built (i am not a boat builder -but have refitted a few boats...), get your fist and hit the hull on the side, it should hurt!
Having the transom and floor done is a plus - (assuming it is done properly) - i would suggest a sea trial and see if you can take a mate - my thinking is a 90hp on a 20foot glass boat is going to be a snip under powered and you want to see how it goes with a "normal" load in it
cheers

Thanks for the input - I've already had one look and done all the usual tests and it seems to be a very good hull (hitting the side was like hitting a rock). Been told the 90 will hit 32knots so that'll be ok for me powerwise - its my first proper boat so I want to walk before I can run. Weight isn't an issue for towing so we'll have to see how the water test goes. Repairs were done by the blokes business so I imagine a fair bit of effort was put into it haha

Seeker
Hi Paj Man,
Ive got exactly what you are looking at mate. Mine is powered by a 90 opti and does 30kn tops (antifouled hull) and will sit on 22 in anything. Mine is 1988 hull, just had 5 yearly inspection done for insurance as per Club Marine.
You wont be disappointed with the hull - not too many around now with a bow like the seekers which is why for a centre console they are relatively "dry" and give a great ride due to the position of the Console
I would pay 19k - even better if you could get a few bucks off though
Go for it mate

Thanks moylee - very similar
Thanks moylee - very similar words to what the guys selling it has told me. I've already got him down from above $20k so I think I'm at the threshold, it is a very tidy boat.

I had a 23' New Seeker with a hard top. Powered by a 350 V8 . Best boat I ever had but the Mercruiser upkeep cost a bloody fortune. I loved the hull, dry, predictable and built like the proverbial sh*thouse. It was a huge lump of a boat and I would have taken it anywhere.
