Its down to the two best teams of the year, the mighty fighting Hawks and the high flying Eagles...the battle of the birds. Hawks are going for a shot at immortality, the Eagles for their first flag in nearly a decade.
Just a bit of light hearted nonsense to get the ball rolling...
The North Melbourne Curse. You've heard of the Kennett curse but there is a little known curse going back a number of years involving North Melbourne and Prelims (in the current form). The side who has beaten the Kangas in the Prelims has gone on to get smashed in the GF. Also all the Eagles premierships have come in even years....That does it for me

well I reckon the eagles are a better than even chance to take the flag on satdy possibly between 15-32 point winners lol
given there run into this game they are well ready , with nothing to lose and everything to play for ,
hawks have had back to back hard games, travel and the possibility of running it out in the heat satdy at the mcg , their experience will help them but it might not be enough I hope
lets see how gunston is by Friday and if hodgey is 100%
either way its a game I never expected them to make at the start of this year so they have exceeded expectations , however if you get to play in the grandy , you better give it your all and I think they can do it
the only curse /theory I can think of goes with the brownlow winner , not having their team win that same years grandy , that seems to hold very true

They are already winners IMO.
Hawthorne have the most to lose, the expectation on them to win three in a row is high.
That in itself coupled with the weather on Saturday could, & I say could be detrimental to their cause. (Don't underestimate them, they are a talented team)
The Eagles on the other had, like you said have nothing to lose. Experience will be gained from it for the next few years.
If they come home with the flag, it will be an experience that this club group may never have again due to the fact of where they were at the beginning of this season.
They have well surpassed every bodies expectations & for such a young group have bonded quicker than previous eagles teams before them.

IMO all the members of the winning team's squad who have played a senior game through the year should be awarded a medal, not just those who play on the day, as they have helped the team get to that chance of playing in the grand final

I know this is a thread about the GF, but i just wanted to add a comment about the Brownlow medalist. This is from todays west (online). Phil Smart was the dockers recruiting manager. 2009 was his last draft at the club.
Check out the players who got picked BEFORE Fyfe in 2009...
Smart watched the count with his family at home and said he was delighted to see the 24-year-old take out the award.
Smart’s son Connor, 8, was particularly excited, given he was just a toddler when Fyfe briefly lived with them after he was drafted by the club.
“It’s very pleasing,” Smart said
“It’s satisfying and it’s a great result for Nat and all the hard work he’s had to put in.
“It’s a great result for the football club. It was a real team effort because it was a strong recruiting group.”
But Smart revealed there were heated discussions among the list-management team over whether Fyfe would become the elite midfielder the club so desperately needed.
Tom Scully, Jack Trengove, Dustin Martin, Anthony Morabito, Ben Cunnington, Gary Rohan, Brad Sheppard, John Butcher, Andrew Moore, Jake Melksham, Jordan Gysberts, Kane Lucas, Daniel Talia, Lewis Jetta, Christian Howard, Jasper Pittard, Daniel Menzel, Luke Tapscott and Ben Griffiths were all taken before Fyfe in the 2009 national draft.
“The recruiting team were convinced that in the long term he’d be a midfielder,” Smart said. “The question that was probably asked by people on list management was was he going to be a midfielder?
“We rated him probably a little bit higher than most clubs.”

I didnt get my info from reading about it or seeing an ex player on TV being arrested or talking shit 10 years later. But, keep on your merry way, its broken up a pretty uneventful afternoon for me.

We all know about the drugs at the eagles but that is in the past.
The young group of today are not part of that and do not need to be tarred with that old brush.
Perhaps some jealous folks that didn't make it to the finals feel the need to taint this team with that brush as a form of venting their frustration, who knows.
