g'day all
My family and I a planning a trip to albany in feburary next year and am asking for advice on fishing this area. I would like to ask for help from fishing the rocks and beaches in this area (where? what gear? Bait? etc). i will also try and get out on a charter boat so if possible could someone reccommend the best charter in this area. i will also have access to a boat for a few days when i am down there so if possible could someone give me a few hints into where abouts to go fishing (reefs etc).
All information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanx
Mick

Hi Mick
Just out of interest before providing some tips. Have you got a 4wd for a few landbased/rock missions?
Cheers,
Adam

Cool Mick
Excellent, well I'm actually from the Walpole/Denmark area so can give a few pointers for that area. I have sent a message to one of the local Albany guys to see if he can help out.
For charters, I've heard Spinners are meant to be pretty good. Not sure if this is still their number, but may be worth the call. 0898417151
Otherwise you could call Albany Rod and Tackle to see if they have any charter numbers/recommendations. 08 9841 1231 should be their number.
Will get back to you on the rock/boat fishing. What size boat will you have available and how ocean faring is it?

Albany spots
Have always heard good things about the "Sand Patch" if you want to hit the beach. Around the back of Mutton Bird Island the 4wd track take you to some awsome looking deep water where no doubt blue groper, yellow tail kings ect will be caught. West Cape Howe is also a great looking spot but like all rocks down that way must only be fished in a minimal swell, otherwise hit the beach.
For the beach I would use a mulie/tailor rig with a small hook nearer the sinker to pick up herring and whiting. Herring fillets and the whiting would then go out on a 2nd rod.
For the rocks a normal boat rig with 1 hook for bottom bouncing and a live herring floated from the surface would be ideal.
