Tagging Sambo's

Yep, we only just started helping with tagging sambo's last season. Not too sure about the catch and release of snapper because it would be too hard to regulate, a good question thou. Will have to find out some more about this.

Tagging

I think last year you was alowed to catch and release snapper in the sound , there was a big thread on FWA about it , contact fisheries to see if they want any more taggers for this year .

Last year for a thank you they were all shouted a day out jigging Sambo's by Corey .

Cockburn Sound will be

Thu, 2006-08-10 20:39

Hi Streetfighter,

Cockburn Sound will be closed to pink snapper take & possesion in the Sound from Sept 15th to Nov 31st like last year I think!

You're allowed to transport pink snapper through the Sound caught from the outside area's but no vessel is allowed to stop & line fish with pink snapper onboard ie in an icebox, this is breaking the law.

I'm heavilly involved as you know with Corey and the Cockburn Snapper program and we dont promote catch & release as many fish take the hooks down deep and will ultimately kill millions of eggs/milt taddies including an old fish!

I suggest getting out there now and after the ban as they're around for ALONG TIME and you can keep them....please if you get a tagged pinky record the measurement and call the phone # on the tag and yes you can keep the fish (small reward offered ie T-shirt sometimes)and your doing the right thing by Research.

Cheers

No probs mate, yeh if you

Thu, 2006-08-10 21:00

No probs mate, yeh if you catch them as a by catch then so be, I've had many customers wanting to actively target them just to throw them back........a floating old snapper that is dead/sufficating on hooks in the vital organs isn't a nice sight especially when you cant even keep it!

All the best,

Ryan
