Albany Bluff Creek Salmon

Hi All

Went out to Bluff creek yesterday in search of some salmon. Left early and hit the beach about 830am. Drove up about the beach 300 metres before spotting some fish in the waves, heading in the direction we just came from. Quick u turn and back up the beach we head to try and get in front. Lures on the rods and my first cast I pitched out 100m into the surf, couple of cranks of the handle and bang on straight away! At this stage I was knee deep in water and fish started bumping into my legs - I was surrounded my salmon! No need to cast the 100m.

Look up the beach and Jane is also surrounded by fish, rod bent over and her hanging on hard! The salmon were all splashing around in less than a foot of water, chasing 100's of herring! Was amazing.

Was a good session with many fish caught and released by all! We followed them up the beach for ages, throwing the herring back in that were stranded on the beach.

Best little session with salmon for a while - just couldn't believe they were swimming around our feet. Was good seeing them hunt down the herring in the shallows, as well as hunting down our lures! Sight casting to single salmon and watching them hunt your lure down is awesome!!

Attached is a few photos!

welcome to southern sportsfishing

love my mackies and big gero tailor ,oh and northern reefies, but south coast ,perfect conditions,

watching lines of feeding salmon evade a crystal clear gutter just before high tide is just magic.

that crisp autumn air, that constant wave sound and that south coast water will draw you back,

its just one of those fishing experences that pulls you in, it has done for me ,for the last 25 years.

Even in good salmon years in Perth, those remote beachs would pull me down for season after season.

Sometimes for 4 days, we would fish ,camp and live by the high tides , the sun up or down, or the wind,

without seeing another human being ,it clensed the soul and focused the mind on what really matters in life.

Its priceless and its worth fighting for if it ever comes to that.

 awesome session. its magic

Mon, 2011-04-18 22:22

awesome session. its magic seeing the salmon in a feeding frenzy like that, cant say i have been in the water with them but been there when it has happened. herring going everywhere, even beeching themselves to get away from the salmon only to be followed by them.

great pics to go aslong with the story
