Macks and More
First time report guys. Be gentle.
Finally convinced a long time mate to come along on one of my fishing trips off Jurien on Saturday. Started off early at first light, but North Easter was up a little so decided to go for a troll first before heading deep. Couple of hits and misses before we were on to the first mackie. After 2 hours of trolling the count was 3 spaniards, 1 shark mack and 1 long tail tuna. Macks (including sharkie) were around the 10 - 12kg mark. Tuna probably around 6kg. Kept the spaniards and tuna.
Wind had dropped a little, so decided to hit up a couple of lumps out deep. Second lump seemed to have a bit of action on it and pulled up 4 dhuies, 1 blackarse, 1 sambo, 1 sgt baker and some pretty thumping NW blowies. Kept 2 dhuies around 5kg and 12 - 14kg and the blackarse (which was about as big as they come).
My mate was the hero of the day catching majority of fish. I was happy to put him on to them. We were on our way in around 11:30am pretty satisfied and even saw a whale to top things off. Never seen one come through in May and I've spent a lot of time crayfishing out there at that time of year.
Looking good for all the holiday makers heading up there. I'll be looking for them again for sure.

Great first post. That'll be hard to top by the next lad/lass that joins up. Sounds/looks like a great morning on the water. Congrats and welcome.

Welcome onboard clay and a fantastic first report. I've never seen the water flatter when driving down the coast road on Saturday from Exy. Looked awesome out there, and obviously the fish played the game aswell.
Cheers Pete

Absolutely. Gotta love the new road, although keeping your eyes on it can be a challenge with the ocean views. The ocean glassed off during the morning. One of those special days you only get during autumn - warm and windless.

Excited!
Well done, and thanks for a great report...we're planning to head up on Friday and hang around for a week as long as the weather/swell play the game. Your efforts have given us extra inspiration! Just a quick question, how deep did you have to go for the demersals? We generally get ours in the forties but haven't had much luck there around this time of year...

Demersals
Head out to the first or second bank and there's heap of ground and fish to be found. Drift over the area and you'll find some hot spots. First bank is about 12 miles out and starts running south from almost due west of Jurien. Second bank is about 15 miles out and runs forever. I didn't see any cray pots out there either, so it's going to be a lot harder for amatuers without marks to find isolated lumps, so the second bank will at least ensure you can cover a lot of pretty good ground.
