Is this a fault of the rec fishos again?

Thu, 2012-04-26 12:52

Funny how a surfing tutor come "environmental activist" can make a spin on this. Fish die all the time for many reasons. It's sad but everything dies at some point and there are many reasons they do. The reporter at the Albany Advertiser obviously needs a scoop. Let's face it, not a lot happens down there

media doodles

Not saying in this case, but the ole media have a habit of putting a spin on anything

they want.My old man was a carreer firey in Perth for 35 years , and always had a good laugh at what

was reported verses what actually happened. In the end , he only ever said , no comment, and left it up for

the liason boys to sort out. Once in a moment of weakness at a industrial fire in belmont , he

mentioned to a ; Scoop at all costs character, that it may be a $500,000 fire, only to hear

later it was , reported ,by a source in the fire brigade at a $ 5 million dollar blaze!!

guess scoop wanted a bigger headline haha.

Marlin have turned up dead at albany , esperence for years, nothings changed that much.

local books from the 60,s report mackies off the lower west coast , busso , augusta etc

but that small fact doesnt make a good story does it?

scoop quadfisher reporting, back to the studio

Does that mean

Does that mean that there may still be a stray one still to swim back past Perth waters

Reported as a Black Marlin

I don't think so, looks more like a striped marlin or perhaps a blue to me.

Dont know the exact size but

Dont know the exact size but i remember reading that in larger Black Marlin the pectoral fins(side fins) wont lay flat on the body and they become rigid in place. If so then it very well might be a Blue?????

Marlin down there can't be

Sat, 2012-04-28 21:51

Marlin down there can't be that rare... I've heard of a few that have washed up along that strech of coast. I have a photo of a big one hung up at the old walpole fishing club with me standing under it as a kid. My old man and my uncle found it washed up on Blue Holes. I have personally seen what I can only describe as a billfish jumping one day off the coast of Walpole, even have a mate that also saw it who was fishing further down the beach and we both agree that it must have been a billie.

I suppose no one ever targets them down that way so how would we ever know what's around?

Mon, 2012-04-30 17:59

It was 24.5° in 200 meters out from Walpole just after Christmas. Not bad for the Southern Ocean

Fishing was hot too
