You don't need to completely remove the paint
if you want to re-paint. But it MUST be sanded back very well, all bolt-on fittings removed. Prep is a large part of cost, just labour-intensive--if you can do a good prep job, shouldn't be hard to find a painter. You won't get a good-looking finish if you strip the paint and clear-coat. I've had a lot of experience with clear coatings on large and small aluminium boats, and honestly, wouldn't really bother with it on a small boat. If you leave ali bare, you can get it looking good again with use of ali cleaner--if coated, never cleans up as well, IMO.

Hi mate
Thanks for the reply
If i strip it bare and leave as bare aluminium it sounds like a clear coat is not worth it as you say. I thought you had to coat bare aluminium but it's ok to leave it as is?
In regards to sanding can you recomend the best way to go about it, materials wise i'm assumimg its a little bit cleaner than trying to strip the paint?
