Not really a report but I did have a 35cm tailor with a 6/0 circle in it's shoulder suspiciously dissapear last night without so much as a nudge on the heavy gear. The 55lb flouro was sliced through very cleanly. That was further down towards freo though.
yeh ive been thinking about setting up for a night around burswood and using my kayak to send out a few live baits. just need to find a place to get live mullet, ive seen them in guildford at the mouth of the helena river a few times in the middle of summer.
There was a write up in the paper bout a small bully surfacing around burswood id love to hook into one so any tips or anyone looking for a shark fish pm and ill see if im free
i met one person recently that fishes in the swan river from his kayak, he told me he has seen two large bull sharks in the past year, one in matilda day, and one near point walter. He reckons both were over 4-5ft long, and had the floppy fin of a bull shark, so they werent a dolphin
if we do have large bull sharks in the river, then why do we never see any pics in the paper when someone catches one, or no-one has been been bitten for over 40 years ?
i just dont think many people are out chasing them. thats why there are no pics making it to the papers. as for attacks from all the docos ive seen about bullsharks in rivers say attacks are pretty rare and they keep to theselves. the most recent research paper i saw said that the big females around 10-12ft come into the river, give birth and then leave. these small ones stay in the river system until they are 5-6ft long which takes around 5yrs. if there are 5-6ft bulls in the swan by all indications at the right time of year you could catch a 10-12ft bullshark in the swan
I heard of a 2-3 metre shark spotted recently near guildford bridge and i was talking to an old bloke down at Garvey a couple of weeks ago who reckons he saw a guy land 5 of them in one session in redcliffe while fishing for Mulloway, all were the same size around 4ft long so there must have been a school of them around.
i was snorkelling in the river the other night, saw quite a few fish, it was so calm....but even saw three small eagle rays..i have seen the odd one in the shallows, but never three in one night.....however...
i then saw a HUGE eagle ray, it was only about 15 ft away from me, just off to the side, i got the impression it was watching me ? It was easily over 6-8ft from wingtip to wingtip
I was quite nervous seeing one that big, plus seeing such a huge one so close, and in the river...bloody gave me a big scare.... later that swim i did see a couple of 'chomped' crabs, maybe from the ray ?
I'm glad i didnt see any bull sharks, it would have really given me a fright....
Seeing really big rays at night can be quite startling at first, but once you realise they are a ray you shouldnt have anything to be nervous about as they are extremley dosile and not agressive at all. Where abouts were you snorkeling?
