Mate

Tue, 2013-07-02 21:20

Mate was up there a week back, lots of sharks, a few baldies, pinkies on the west side and some 7-9lb tailor down the east side.
There first time up there but had a few spots to start off with, not a lot of return for the effort they put in.
Weather wasn't too crash hot either.

Was on the west side of Dirk

Was on the west side of Dirk a week ago. Tuna and shark macks busting up bait everywhere you looked, quite a few Spaniards right along the cliffs, biggest we landed was just under 30kgs, heaps of cobia hitting jigs and floating whole baits out the back of the boat within 150m of the cliffs, had a 6ft Wahoo hang around the boat for a couple minutes just swimming around the floating bait, heaps of sharks too..
I've got a huge report to do but not posting until I edit a video.
Here's a quick vid I uploaded though..

Fish, fish, fish

Just came back from up there. Plenty of fish and the reef was teeming with Mack's. bagged out every day on snapper too and even managed a magnificent trout.

The weather was a little undesireable but all in all, fantastic.

You must of had a good size

You must of had a good size boat Seahunter, we got back on Saturday after being up there all last week and didn't get too much.

Was restricted by the weather and only having a 4.7m open runabout!
Did the Bent Pin and two channels next to it. Ended up with a few size snapper and a good flatty
(that thing looked bloody ugly compared to other flatties I've seen!!!)

Was a heap of small Snapper around!

Got some good size 65-70cm tailor down near Nanga.

Really need a +5.5m boat to get out to the spots to make it worth while.

Was pissed off to see the fancy folk in thier nice boat come up to the cleaning table with a crate of

snapper, blue bone, emperor & trout and se how they fillet these prize table fish.

BLOODY DISGRACEFULL amount of waste!

weather

As I said the weather was not fantastic but we managed 5 out of the 7 days we were up there. It turned nasty on us twice on consecutive days in the afternoon, one trip back from Dampier took over 4 hours, with the first two hours doing 8knots. The tub is 6.8m centre console Jackman style with a 175 Suzuki and 300 litre fuel tank.

We caught most of our t snapper in the bay over near Egg Rock. Stay away from egg rock though unless you want tot lose a lot of gear for some shark mackreal and blackies.

We also did well up near turtle bay in a small channel, buut we had to fight the sharks for our supper.

I heard bent pin got hammered last week as a couple of locals said there was fish there.

i was up there between the 21st June - 8th July. fished almost everyday inside the bay (roughly 13-17 NM out) and bagged out everyday on Pinks. plenty of Black Snapper and the occasional Rankin and Estuary. we were back by lunch most days. probably one of the easiest fishing trips i have been on. the Pinks are thick at the moment and in most cases a nuisance (under size) but you soon hook up to a 650cm no probs. good luck.
