Any tuna around?

Anyone having any luck with the toonas? Going to head out from Pt Peron in the morning and troll north towards Rotto. Never done it before can anyone reccomend a depth to get us started?
Cheers

Definitely worth a look :-) its getting pretty exciting, also got bricked by an unknown trolling after a 20 minute fight thought i was starting to win the battle - then with saltiga on full drag screaming run stripping line out till it busted me in the reef, still licking my wounds :-( my guess is yellow tail king or big mackie :,(

Double & triple hook ups

Thu, 2012-12-27 19:08

Today with small tuna, 1.1/2 - 2kg. Spotted the birds working and threw over a couple of gold slices, 30gm, wham - nice fight on light gear. Busted a 4kg braid at the boat, bummer. Tried again this time with a couple of divers, again they were on straight away, this time triple hook up. Great fun with only two in the boat. Got a couple more triples but then they dove and the birds departed. A good day.

there is definitely some around mate seen a massive school around the same area birds the lot. threw every type of lure and they just weren't hungry. my advice would be to look for the birds then throw a bright colored plastic into them = instant hook up happened two us twice out there!

what type of lures would one use to catch tuna?

Being a spearo I want to spear one but the chances of that happening are slim, think line is the next best option

I used

Sun, 2012-12-30 08:16

 40gm Halco Gold Slices

 40gm Halco Chrome slices

9cm Rapala Countdown Magnum - sardine color

i was trolling not casting. If I was going to cast I would have sed some very small like pilchard metal slugs in the range of 7 - 15gm range as the baitfish they are chasing is very, very small, no more than 1.5 cm long.
