Anyone running an Airmar TM185H-W
Submitted by rigpig on Mon, 2017-03-13 01:33
Guys, I want to upgrade my P66 tranny to a chirp unit. I have been told a Airmar TM 185H-W transom mount unit will plug straight into my NSS12 Evo 2 unit and be good to go for the depths I usually fish in, up to 130m, but rarely. Im not really keen to go super high dollar with a BSM-3 added etc. With the recent software upgrade on the NSS12 Im thinking the TM 185 may just be what Im after..
Any thoughts. Thanks fallas.

Can you go thru-hull? Have a look at the B175H. Much better than transom mount for picking up ground st speed.

thanks for the comparisons
Stevo Im not sure about through hull for my boat. its a Barcrusher which has a deep V Hull and sealed deck. Not sure how I would get it in as there is also the ballast system down the centre to contend with.. might have to send Barcrusher an email..
cheers though buddy.

Same as SS175HW
The 185 is the same transducer as the SS175HW but in a transom mount. A few guys here and heaps on the East coast run the 175 with good results. I'm getting one installed as we speak.
I believe the 185 is only just available, literally this week, in Australia through CH Smith.

I\ll check out the CH Smith site.. I got a heads up from Blue Bottle fishing on FB but it gets confusing with the amount of different chirp 1kw units getting around..

Cone angle
The HW version is a 25 degree cone in high frequency. There are low and high frequency versions and narrow cone angles, although I don't know which are available in transom mount.
The HW is good for searching for bait/fish in a wide area when bill fishing, and for spotting schools of fish in shallow water. I will be using mine in conjunction with a narrower beam unit to pinpoint fish.
