Anyone used fuel/water seperator funnels before?

Gday there. Well up at Groote here it seems we have some problems with dirty fuel. Most common problem is water in the fuel. I have already got a inline filter from tank to motor, but i would really like to get the water out, before it goes into the tank. A few guys on the island are using these http://www.mrfunnel.com/Mr._Funnel/Home.html  im wondering if anyone on here has used one before, or any other ideas you have.  Cheers Wade

Used one in Indonesia

Was cruising on a yacht through Indonesia in late nineties, and we bought one before leaving Darwin - it was a bit different to Mr Funnel though, with a 3 stage stainless filtering system - that worked extremely well. It was rather like 3 funnels connected together, with each stage having a finer filter.

Most diesel available in Indonesia was stored in 44 gallon drums without lids, and were open to the elements and the local chooks - we found more than water in the fuel purchased!

Cheers,

Judy

my boat was getting lots of water in the fuel so i bought one of the big ones(not cheap) and they work well getting rid of any crap in the fuel aswell. its actually amazing how much crap can be in there. Only prob i had was what to do with the dirty feul afterwards. It was well worth it imo

Water in fuel tank

Not a good thing Wade.

I transfer suspect fuel from bowser/drum into a heap of plastic jerries, then use a clear jiggle syphon to transfer it into the tank. Bit of stuffing around but good piece of mind as you can see any crap coming down the syphon hose.

Placing the jiggle syphon just off the bottom will also help eliminate water/crud intake but there is a bit of fuel wastage if their is crap in there.

Mr Funnel idea sounds good.

Lot easier knowing you may have a problem and then eliminating it rather than finding out on the water after your fuel filter blocks!
