Are Tailor spawning now?

At one of my local Tailor haunts I have noticed tightly bunched up schools of Tailor.

Does anyone know if this is type of behaviour would be indicitive of spawning.

I have kept 1 or 2 smaller specimens and have found no roe.

They seem to have been hanging in the same area for at least couple of weeks  and are still keen to hit lures. ( Yahoo! )

Has anyone else seen similar activities in their area?

Most likely

It's the right time of year for spawning activity and all the indicators have been right in the last week or so. I was away on the weekend hunting jumbos, but copped some bad weather.

Thanks for the reply Buschy.

Those jumbos have definitely been turning up at my local haunts.

I've been getting results on poppers, Richter plugs, stick baits and metals. I prefer the stick baits if mega

long casts are not an issue. Lately i have been doing best sight casting whilst prospecting in likely locations

Good to hear

It's nice to hear I have my timing right...this is the first year I have deliberately tried to time a trip around spawning and let's just say there was a lot of science that went into my research.

I went out of town on Friday arvo - but copped a stiff southerly that stayed up until well into the night. On the rising tide it stirred up all the muck so conditions were very poor for fishing. Wish I could have stayed another night or two as I do believe I've found some prime tailor country that is isolated yet not too far from Perth.

For a days fishing, managed a spiky grunter/trump thing, big ol' stingray and a solitary chopper @ 40cm. Pretty slim pickings, but at least I managed something for the mrs. :-p

All fish on bait....did have a good crack on the Richters but there was too much weed around.

Timing !!!

In my area we have been getting some large Tailor 60cm + ( our average fish would be 50s) from around April. I first discovered them in the area while looking for Salmon and have since got them a bit wired. I use lures exclusively. I move a lot ( no fish in say 20 mins or less move), until I find fish. I fish places where there is gurgling reef ( a bait would snag in seconds POPPERS at these spots) ...holes, gutters and reef ledges. I rarely fish those nice sandy places which everyone else seems to love. Polaroids YES.... HERE is a big one.........I just go down when I feel like fishing and find that being on the beach at dawn is no better than being there at 10 am..........with the sun shining.

I like to only keep one or two smalish fish and release everything else quickly......In the next 12 months Im hoping to get a handle on Samson fish from the sand on lures......Ive come close but I think I have missed my chance until next year.
