The Ashes

Watching last night and looking at the scores this morning thinking... if only we had a left hander that can throw them down at 150 clicks. Oh wait, we do, he is carrying the water at the drinks break. Suprised we also dropped arguably our best batsmen from last summer and played 3 keepers.

Would help even more if we had some batsmen who could play a swinging/seaming ball

Been an issue since 2005. We roll out too many CEO decks nowadays across the International schedule and the Shield and the Poms clamped down on Aussies plying their trade in county cricket.

You are not wrong
It is quite enjoyable watching the women’s cricketers and they are very good representatives for Australian sport.

Jackfrost, totally agree, my favourite form by far.
The win was never in doubt . Helps when one player scores 280 throughout the match.
Siddle bowled well without luck and Garry was special.
Still hope we play Starc for Pattinson and Harris for Bancroft (this one unlikely) for test #2

What a terrific win. The top
What a terrific win. The top 2 were passengers but the rest contributed well. Having Siddle tie up an end is invaluable and fully supports Lyon being able to attack.
The Poms will be scratching their heads as to whether to provide a lively wicket or a turner...they now need to produce pitches that will bring about a result.
The addition of Archer and possibly Wood would(enjoyed typing that!)suggest that a green top is more likely. We now have an attack that wont mind what they produce.

Poms all out for 258
Warner goes cheap again. Aussies 1/30, not a bad effort apart from a couple of dropped catches, and yeah Bancroft reeled that one in.

How much longer do Australia have to keep Warner? Dead set liability.

But do we get rid of Bancroft before Warner? Or both at the same time. Both look absolutely lost on English pitches.

I wonder if he is now pondering... what is more uncomfortable, extra padding on the helmet, getting hit in the back of the head or padding up to a ball hitting middle half way up as a result?

Although it was a poor umpiring decision, worst of all was the Cummings LBW review the over before. Bowler and captain both new it pitched outside leg and barely appealed but reviewed in hope. Crazy

Lyon had Stokes plumb LBW, DRS showed it hitting middle and leg, 2 runs needed, umpire said not out, no reviews left, end of story.

What about Smith though
I'm amazed by his determination, concentration, the value he is putting on his wicket since coming back from the cheating saga. If the Aussies do win the Ashes, he will have played a major role in achieving that, particularly with the failure of the openers to give us a decent start every match.
To me, he has absolved himself, though I know some people will still call him a cheat.
Big day 2 coming up. Hopefully Smithy will carry on and bury the Pom's hopes.
