Attaching teasers

Wondering what any of you use to attach your teasers to the boat whilst trolling?
Am just gearing up for our annual Exmouth trip and one item to be fixed up after losing a witch doctor last year is how to attach (rope, stainless cable etc) to the boat.
Does anyone vary the distance teasers are run behind your boat, or basically keep the same? (therefor not needing longer leader for the teasers)
Cheers

Teaser tow line
I believe there is merit in being able to adjust the length of the tow line as you can then position the teaser exactly where you want it in relation to the position of the lures. The position of the lures may change depending on lures / baits being trolled and / or sea conditions, down current, up current etc. I wouldn't recommend using wire or stainless cable as a tow line.

I use about 500mm of stainless balustrade type wire connected to the witchdoctor then use a ski rope to attach it to the boat. Ski rope doesn't tangle and is easy to pull in. Its also easy to adjust the length for different conditions.

I use heavy Venetian blind
I use heavy Venetian blind cord. Actually it's the line out of a rocket propelled line thrower.
Down to about a metre of coated stainless wire on the witch doctor. Running one witch doctor off each corner with one a couple of metres further back.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

I use a Henderson teaser tow
I use a Henderson teaser tow line which is 10m long. The main reason I use this is that i have heard of Mako sharks sometimes having a go at the teaser, losing one could be a bit a bummer i reckon (also cheaper version of the witchdoctor is the Stickface stalker)

Hmmm....
This is whats left of my teaser and I have been running it straight from venetian blind cord. Might introduce a wire trace....

Wire trace
A wire trace would not have reduced the damage to your teaser. In fact the connection between the wire (say 500mm long) and the tow line may present another bubble trail and target for the toothy critters.

Yep agree, but at least on
Yep agree, but at least on this occasion I got my teaser back and it is still effective. This thread has made me realise what I should have known the whole time which is I could have lost the whole thing!

..
In addition to loosing 'the whole thing' you can also loose the cleat / bollard you tie the teaser on to if you use strong wire / rope as a tow line which was where I was coming from in my first response to the initial post.

mine was lost with the
mine was lost with the stainless loop attached to the teaser snapped (probably through constant wear and tare) and it was in average conditions so didn't realise.

There is nothing permanent about teasers
The first witchdoctor I made got eaten on its maiden voyage out at the trench. We never saw the offender. I heard the cleat it was attached to creak under strain and then it was gone. The tow line parted about half way.
Bodie if you are going to attach a short section of SS wire to the witchdoctor I suggest you use eyes / thimbles in the loops. This may prevent a reoccurrence of the scenario you described.
