Gday All,
Just wondering with the Aussie dollar reaching 92cUS how many people will be gettin there gear from the US and what will you be getting, or will you still be keeping it local.

Price drop
Does the rising dollar mean a local price drop in the saltigas, stellas and imported marine electronics of this world?
After all, they were bumped up in price when the aussie dollar dropped from high 70's to low 60's.
LOL, can't see it happening.

I'll buy stuff
both overseas and local.
Some things are hard to beat from overseas, particularly when you are saving hundreds of dollars - for a reel that a spool of shit hot braid like varivas.

local when it is competitive and oversease for a lot of stuff we cant get here
i'm really sorry to all the locals that sell 18000SW's but if i have the choice to pay $925 AUD from a very reputable seller on the international market and $1299 locally, i tell you which option i am going to choose.

add - i dont mind spending some of my earnings overseas as its foreign money im earning, otherwise this foreign money wouldnt be coming to aus anyway. Still nice to know 80% of it is distributed in aus though :)

Still bought heaps overseas
Still bought heaps overseas when the dollar was only at about 60c because alot of stuff I buy isn't available within Australia for any price.
Some stores that stock specialty Japanese gear within Australia however are very competetive and I support them quite alot - in some cases it's cheaper than buying O/S.

Mostly local
I normally try and buy locally but the problem is that a lot of the stuff I want is not stocked, and so you end up paying a truck load for a special order. If shimano passed on the savings from the higher dollar, as quickly as they put the price up for the low dollar then I don't mind the extra $$$ but sadly they are about as fast as service stations at dropping prices.

Buy most things local but if the dollar goes up a bit more might get some new golf sticks. Save about $400.

Just purchased a Saltist
Just purchased a Saltist 4500 spin and Saltist 30 lever drag from the US and saved around $300, I find once the AU$ gets around the US80c plus mark makes it worth while, just check the postage, most reels should be around $30 postage from the US and take about a week delivery, you can get some good deals on watches too just make sure they are original!

Just check the US ebay site and make sure they have a good feeback record, I've seen Penn Internationals up to 40% cheaper than local.
