They are ok at a pinch.  So long as they are fresh and you cut out all the red meat, put parmesan cheese in the crumbs, and pretend a little bit.

 Two ways I use:1) Lure --

 Two ways I use:

1) Lure -- use a ~40-60g stickbait or metal slug and cast at a school if you see it.

2) Float -- Use a large float, with 60cm line, down to a small sinker and some snelled 4/0-6/0 circle hooks, and a single mulie as bait.

I've caught lots on both methods, good luck.

As said, the main schools will have gone by Easter from there, they will be in the capes area or further north to the metro area.  Should still be a few residents around, so the float method works well.

Paternoster rig with ganged

Wed, 2020-02-26 17:13

Paternoster rig with ganged 4/0s and mulie on top dropper and 3/0 circle with half mulie on lower dropper. Try and get the long life mulies, last so much longer on the hook and doesn't fly off when casting.
And yes there will be resident salmon around. Try in the national park beaches as well.

I second that.  Surf sinker

I second that.  Surf sinker and mulie on gang hooks cast into holes and gutters.  You can see where they are if you are patient and use polariod glasses.  No need to get too fancy.

10ft beech rod and well made

Wed, 2020-02-26 18:55

Spin reel filled with 20lb mono with about 3 metres of 40lb mono trace, a halco twisty as a lure sit on a brominate reef or bay and wait and watch or blind cast.
If/when you spot a school of fish don't cast into the school aim for slightly in front of the school. Good luck.
