Australind - Recreationl Fishing
Submitted by wazafi on Tue, 2013-11-26 07:09
Has anyone been to the end of Leschenault drive in Australind to fish? It is at the mouth of the estuary, I think.
While sightseeing Australind few months back, I drove to the end of the (unsealed) road, and saw a small little jetty(?).
There was no one there.
Is that a good place to fish?
Looks like a good place to bring the kids for some lightweight fishing.
Thanks
Waz

It's hard to see the picture on my phone but if that is in the estuary like I think it is then it's loaded with blowies! The best thing you can catch in there is cobbler imo

Old Cut
Looks like the Old Cut, you can catch herring during the day and tailor early mornings and evenings. Mulloway at night, salmon in season if you are lucky a school has holed up.
The trick with mulloway is not to cast too far out, they travel right close to the rocks and are literally at your feet.

We just got back from a weekend down there, had a great time chasing whiting on lures, the biggest we caught was 40cm and the rest averaged 25 to 30cm.
The water is shallow enough for you and the kids to walk around in and have fun casting for fish.

The Cut
That picture is the Cut, If the weather is right you will be shoulder to shoulder fishing. Never caught anything good there myself. Always get the should have been here yesterday stories. If you go out to Australind then atm you can chase whiting on poppers or use bait from shore. There is also a new jetty at koombana bay which they are getting whiting and tailor off. So lots of places to try.
