Back to basics

To be honest I'm have been off fishing for a couple of years and slowly I have been getting back into it through my four year old son. Going back to old spots land based where I used to go when I was a kid in year 7 with a hand line in my back pack walking distance from east Fremantle primary school targeting herring and bream it has been a joy seeing my son catching his first herring, trumpeter and small bream. You get a small window before they run out of patients but a bribe with ice cream buy you an extra 20 minutes. Next target species for him is a flat head on lure in the swan!

Nothing wrong with going back
Nothing wrong with going back to basics. My dad taught me the basics and I taught my kids and hopefully they will teach theirs when they have some .
Well done on the bribe side of things . Next time take a bag of lollies then you don't have to leave the beach for hours lol

Yeah the basics are needed before he can move into anything else. A bit young for deep dropping or trolling for marlin!

Nothing wrong with a small
Nothing wrong with a small sweetener, mines gone from a bag of lolly's and a drink, to the tanning oils and creams.
Who ever added that stand to woodies cafe has done alright, recon Ive purchased the full range from them now.
But all good, passing on the love of fishing and being on the water is priceless.

Teach them young
My son was about 9-10, after a few trips down to the end of what was Bunbury's wooden jetty, he was determined to do it alone as he could do the rigs etc and was a great swimmer so I would drop him off at the start of the jetty with his gear and lunch box with the message to be back here at 4 00.
Along comes 3 45 and I am waiting for sight of him walking back down the jetty, so its time to go and look for him. Get down the end and he is still fishing with a few shitty fish in his bag, ask why he was still there came the top reply," But Dad, I got a few bites not long back and they must still be here".
The urge had rubbed off big time as he became a pro fisherman on crays, prawns, shark and wetlining and now his 2 boys are keen as mustard to get into southern fish after being spoiled big time from living in Exmouth for over 15 years before moving down to Bunbury to be closer to family

My dad worked in the merchnat navy so wasn't around but I grew up as a jetty rat in Geelong catching mostly flatties. Then found a spot to catch KG's from shore. Used to ride my bike and catch redfin and trout in the Barwon River. Once bitten I never looked back.
