Bagged out Sand Whiting on Soft Plastics

Went out and pulled the pots with not many keepers today.. Mostly tars etc..  So we shifted them to another patch..

After that we (Dad n Myself) decided to try catch a whiting for lunch.. Only problem didnt have any bait..

But I did have some Maggot, look a like soft plastics in the tackle box which I have never used on Whiting before.. (Only Herring)

First drop over the side and BAM it was on.. Full quota done and dusted within the hour..

Back home to clean some for lunch.. Yummo

bones

Tue, 2014-10-21 14:01

Well done there mate - top sesison!

How do you deal with the tiny bones when filliting sand whiting?   I still like them most when filleted and fried in a light batter but my wife is tired of picking small bones out of her mouth and so she prefers then whole on the barbie ( wrapped in foil, 5-10 minutes does it)

These worked very well on the day, but the whiting were on the chew from the first drop..

I would think that if they weren't it would be beneficial to use bait scent on them..

We also found that by using the small SP the hook up rate was twice as good as using bait, as the very next day we went out again just using bait and dropped quite a few fish..

I think this was due to not being able to get a decent small bait to hold on the hook, eg bigger bait, less hook showing with those #8 hooks, more fish dropped..
