Batten down the hatches

A 115 km gust hit Rotto at 11.31 am and a big rain band is just off the coast.

love it, the groyne in front of Austal shipping had the waves way over this afternoon, all the way down,  when we went down to the Club, didn't let the little dog out of the car, she would have been blown away, even the seagulls were hiding behind the bush on the fence line.  Sent it down

Crossing the Bight

Fri, 2009-05-22 13:56

Had a message from my sister informing me that my nephew in the navy is at present crossing the great Aust bight in the navy tanker Supply. She said they were running without anything in the tanks,so I bet they are getting a right proper flogging.Looking on the weather chart and the isobars down there are real close together so expect them to be getting storm force winds or better.Glad its them and not me though you have to feel for them, poor buggers.

well

Sun, 2009-05-24 09:06

i just got back from the gold coast on friday.

had over 120km/ph winds there on the last 2 days. my hotel had nearly every floor's lift windows blown out, and the sauna, spa and pools windows all imploded! cant walk down the street, because of broken glass literally everywhere. plastic chairs and tables, downpipes, etc littered everywhere, blown off all the balconies, plus the usual carnage of trees and branches blown over. the road that runs along the beach, actually looks like the beach cos its 1 foot deep in sand, plus the BIGGEST swell i've ever seen lashing the coast.

i couldnt wait to get out of there and come home, until i heard the weather over here!  it was a bumpy last hour of flight....
