berley mullet up
Submitted by flyingdutchfisherman on Tue, 2011-09-13 21:45
There is a lot of mullet swimming under the lights of the jetty around night time. But they just swimming in the shadow lines. I always cath a couple with my cast net. But it would be easy if I can get them more close to the jetty under the light. So how can I berley them all closer to the jetty?
I know there are many diffrent mullets. I reckon it is sea mullet. They are quit big boys, really silver and fat.
I tried bread but they don't really respond to the bread.. What else can I try?
Any Berley tips would be good so me and my friend don't need to argue about the last mullet haha
cheers

forget
forget about the people that post that cant help you....
sea mullet tend to be an ignorant fish and spook pretty easily
try using a blend of dry pollard and mixing it with some whiskas fishy cat food no water required put a few slices of
bread in a bit of water n mash it all up and add it to that mix.. you still wanna be using ur bread for bait cause it stays
on the hook quite well just rub it in the leftover catfood too get it all oily and rub it into a ball between ur fingers.. a really small hook would probly be best...
can be frustating watching them swim around n not touch a bait..
let us know how u go.. if they dont respond to the berly just get a big "treble" out..! haha watch people knock on that

Queensland mate, where
Queensland mate, where castnets are allowed. So don't worry..
I'm trying to get some more mullets tomorrow ;) Yesterday my livie got smashed by a huge barra; I saw him jumping up the surface with the livie and came down the water with a huge smack splash sound! crazyyyyyyy but I striked to early.. always hard to wait a few more seconds haha :P
So tommorow I get hopfully some more mullets.. I'm quite sure they are sea mullets because they are quit big and really shiny silver. I also saw a lot of pody mullets swimming next to the rockwalls but it is hard to trow the net out and don't trow it on the rocks. So I just go for the sea mullets.
I also saw somewhere bread soked in tuna oil would do good. So I'm deffenly gonna try the wiskas cat food and the tuna oil with bread. But what do you mean with dry POLLARD? And treblle out?
Ps; this morning I caught 2 giant male mudcrabs in my brand new crab pot, they were sooooooo yummyyyy! Just to make you guys jeallous muhhaha

bread soaked in tuna oil
I tried small floathing bread, and it got some attention but then this massive catfish scares them all away.
So the next day I tried soaked in tuna oil, result ---> 9 catfish!!!
I reckon the best way to cath them is to wait till they just come close enough to trow the net. How frustrating it is.. I see them swimming 5 meters far away from the jetty. They just don't come that close enough to cath them easy...
But one this is: I won't give up and maybe I found an other way to cath those mullies!
