Harvey

12 hours to go till we wet our lines in the Harvey dam , cant wait .

Went down there last sunday for a look at the levels and the clarity of the water and was amazed at how many people were fishing there,

I know before someone reminds me that I was doing the same thing out of season fishing there some time ago as I was under the asumption that it was an open season dam, It does however show a problem with getting people to understand and know the rules and why was there no ranger or the like letting people know the rules ,even some signs would be a start.

Anyway wish us luck , have never caught a trout .

Mike.

Good luck

Good luck mike, keen to read a report about your trip to Harvey. Lot's of fisho's will be at all the dams but i cant make it down, hope to go the following weekend.

I like Harvey dam alot, mostly because no power boats are alowed to use the dam, which means no jet ski's or Ski boats . Most lures will work for trout there, my fav's are celta type spinners  ( black with a gold blade ) and minnow style hard body's. ( brown or rainbow trout colours )

Hope you get some . Cheers Grant .

Well we headed off just after

Thu, 2011-09-01 19:10

Well we headed off just after 5am this morning and headed to Harvey, nice drive apart from the ute driver that tried to have a head on with a truck right in front of us.

We arrived at Harvey dam just after 6.30 as the sun was coming over the hills which were covered in low cloud ( awesome sight) parked up opposite the boat ramp donned the waders and got into the water and flicked the various lures around for about an hour and a half before I got smashed by this beautiful rainbow trout didnt have to fight it for too long and landed my very first trout , totally pumped :).

We then had an early lunch and headed off to the very back of the dam to the stream that feeds into the dam, there was about 25 brood stock rainbows in there and we managed to get another two for the day .

I pan fried the trout with a dusting of seasoned flour in a little butter and lemon juice , mmmmm very nice , way to end a great day ,,,,, back to work tomorrow :(.

That seems strange Grant.

On friday saw heaps of fish rising.

The rainbow I caught actually rose in front of me. Cast to where I thought he would be and got him.

Gonna give it another crack during the week. Let ya know how I go.

Better luck next time mate.

Cheers

Dan

Opposite the boat ramp

Mon, 2011-09-12 10:53

Opposite the boat ramp on Saterday arvo . Fished into the eve and then at sunrise Sunday until 10 am.

Was a group of three cars ( one with a boat on the trailer )

I normaly fish there or up at the third causeway. But also move around during the day.

It was strange not to see any fish rise , Not even any red fin , which can be like blowies most mornings and arvo's.

I hope to get back soon, the water was very low compared to previous years.
