Best airbags for ranger

In what now appears to be not one of my better decisions i bought a new ranger single cab chassis. It has got an aluminium tray and an aluminium Bull motor bodies

tradie canopy on it and about 230 kg of ladders and tools etc which is enough to make it drag its arse.

The springs are actually bent backwards. It has been on a weighbridge and it all weighs a bit over 600 kg more than a bare cab chassis without even a tray on it.

It is supposed to to have a payload of 1300 kg and with less than half of that people are flashing me at night because the headlights are pointing too high.

I had all this on a hilux for nearly 10 years with no problems. I will be going to coral bay in about 6 weeks and will be actually carrying a decent load so I will need to do something to keep its arse from dragging on the ground so would like to hear from others as to what are good and bad airbags and if they can be installed yourself.

Also I think it is posessed.

Forget about bags to cure that problem

If the springs are that badly overloaded, sticking a bag under there will place a lot of stress on the chassis between the spring mountings, very possibly cracking it. This does happen, very commonly.  Uprate your springs before you do anything else, no other way around it. Bags on a leaf sprung vehicle are for very small adjustments in load carrying capacity, not making up for badly overloaded springs.  Coil sprung rears are a different story, the forces are being applied in the same place as they were before the bags were fitted.

 Definitely do what ranmar850

Definitely do what ranmar850 suggested as the outcome with just bags WILL be a major failure to the chassis and very costly !!

OR ....you could get a set of these bags and you won't think about your suspension ever again !!

Extremely costly!

However...all the associated problems with THOSE type of bags will make you completely forget about anything a ute could throw at you!

On a more serious note, crano, you said that you bought it new...can you not take this up with Ford? I wonder what that smarmy little bitch with the blue dress in all their ads would have to say about it? Oh wait...she probably drives a Hyundai!

Took it in for 3000 km

Fri, 2016-03-04 20:09

Took it in for 3000 km service yesterday and got nowhere with them.Wish I had got another hilux as it turns out there is quite few other things about it that gives me the shits  including already being $500 out of pocket with dodgy trailer wiring electronics module.

Upgrade suspension. My Navara standard springs are apparently only good for up to 300kg so I am upgrading to medium. Anyone who knows what they are on about recommends against airbags as instead of dividing the load between 4 places with leaf springs, airbags isolate it to two paces and you risk bending your chassis.

Quite a few bad reports I've heard now on the Rangers a mate got one about a year an a half ago and the stitching in the back seat all fell out ford don't want to know about it they look tough but just not for our conditions I've always said we live in Toyota country after living in the Kimberly for 20 + years you get to see which cars last and which ones don't  I've always had landcruisers an only got my fist hilux 2 years ago upgraded the suspension 2 in lift when I got it it's got a Boston canopy with 1200 of tray behind it and I get my 700 grizzly quad bike on the back and tow my 5m pro fish no probs .
