Beware of the blue Jackman for sale on boats online!

Just a quick heads up if your in the market for an ali boat. I wanted this boat as soon as i saw it, ticked all the boxes for me, had it checked over - lets just say it has some serious "structural issues" (trailer requires electric brakes also but i didnt care about that i was still gonna buy it) After the dealer got my mechanics report he gave boat back to owner and now owner has it for sale with a different dealer. Only posted this cause i dont want a fellow fishwreckeder to get caught out with this one thats all.

It is an offence to sell a vehicle (including a boat) that is unroadworthy/unsafe.

you would of course have to prove that the seller knows this, this is why the dealer refused to sell it after you brought it to their attention.

New dealer selling it has no knowledge of any issues. Might pay to give them the report.

The first red flag appeared to inspector when he tested

Wed, 2020-07-15 13:56

anchor winch. When anchor locked into position front deck lifted and the split bow rails bowed in towards each other!!! very weak structurally
So he started looking extra close and found welds that he could see cracked corroded and all had been covered up with sikaflex (classic giveaway) Electrolysis evident in kill tank floor, chimes had some holes and corrosion visible in the welded joins visible from outside. When he trimmed the motor down he couldnt understand why the leg didnt tuck in under the transom slightly like it is supposed to - then he realised a transom angle handnt been built into the pod holding the motor so motor going along in trimmed up position (said he had never seen that in 20 years of inspecting boats). Lots of cracked welding in other areas of boat. The wiring is a mess (i didnt care i was gonna redo it anyway), motor checked out good. Basically he said he would not go out in that boat based on what he could see and suspects if you lifted the floor it would be real bad in there. Also thinks it may have been built from a kit by somebody who's not a professional boat builder. All up cost me $460 to check everything but i saved a whole lot of shit down the track

Wow! Yep plenty of wannabe boat builders out there with no welding experience. I do ali work as a non major part of my workshop and it's taken me a long time to master it, not the easiest material to work with. It contaminates very easily, basically need very clean conditions to work with it. It had major distortion issues as well. I would never buy a kit boat unless it was put together by someone qualified.

I sent this post to the new dealer that was advertising the boat, probably explains why the advert has been taken down immediately.

Just saw a Jackman on Boats

Wed, 2020-07-15 16:39

Just saw a Jackman on Boats on line, Is it the one at power and sail marine, South Perth ?

What a bloody shocker, that boat needs to be taken off the market, or advertised correctly and priced accordingly.

been for sale for a few

Thu, 2020-07-16 06:09

been for sale for a few years now through 2 or 3 different owners. I had a look at it a while ago and just laughed at the dealer that was trying to sell it. His exact words were as i stepped off a surtees to jump onto this one. I wouldn't bother climbing onto that one if i were you and when i did i couldn't believe what i saw. Looks like its been welded by a blind butcher under water then the sikaflex bead to cover them is even worse, looks like in a stiff chop it would simply fall apart, if it looks that bad from above im scared to see whats below. Only worth motor value imo. Not the 70k plus asking price.

Hopefully the owner now hasn't already been burnt and is trying to get some coin back?

Would be interesting to know the history of the boat...
