Bid here
i was interested to see the online auction folks become a sponsor - a few warnings and a few thumbs up from site members made for an interesting concept for Adam to recoup a few of the costs. How are people finding it? Personally for me it is crap. Here in the SW we have the TAB or a trip to Perth if we want a punt. THis seemed like a punt without the travel - but i have a couple of issues. I am on satellite connection and usually it is fine - on Bid Here it shows i have around 15% connectivity to their server - not much chop. I was a bit bored tonight so i lashed out $35 on 50 bids. Great investment as it appeared i won an Apple notebook for around $55 - and everyone bidding near the same time appeared to win something also - at least the countdown finished and it showed the winning bids were being checked - and checked, and checked - nothing wrong my end as the non won won items continued to count down but you could not register a bid. The fact that the count down ran on unwon items seemed to show connectivity was ok - but the site was dodgy? Any comments other than there is one born.............?

i bought 100 dollars worth
it will be my last spend on there, i didnt like the way it went, i also thought i had won several times as you did and it came yup with checking checking checking and then resumed the bidding, maybe ive got sour grapes because i lost haha!
Anyway i gave it a go once as i think you should do for most things, wont be giving it a second go personally but each to their own. :)

It has happened twice to me
It has happened twice to me was bidding on the iphone and on one of the camera's same thing happened checking checking then it started again plus there is a delay when placing bids try and do it in the last two seconds and nothing happens wont be useing that site again.

A few issues:
1. I believe it is a US based site, anything you win is paid for in US$.
2. A lot of these auctions are "fixed price" - therefore no matter what the outcome (ie $4.84, if it is fixed price $100, thats what you pay)
3. The checking, checking is the computer searching for monkey (automatic) bids, the delay is again I believe due to it being US based and we are in Australia.
In the end its a bit of pot luck if you jag it really. Unless you are prepared to throw a shedload of bids at it.

ah stuff it...
Just blew another $37.50 on 55 credits...
Amazing how fast they click over on 15sec intervals !
Thanks Mako.... thought I was in with a chance until you jumped in....
I'm thinking some people have got too much spare coin in their pockets especially when working 2,3 or 4 auction items at a time..
I guess it's all about chance if you want to win cheaply, or if you really want the item you have to be prepared to throw possibly up to 50% of the RRP onto credits !
PS.. good luck Mako on the Macbook against westwest !!

Ha! I blew ~$100 bidding on
Ha! I blew ~$100 bidding on a $4K iMac. It was between me and one other and the bids (both using bidmonkey) ticked over all night. Got up at 6am to check if I am a winner but the war was still on!
Others started to come in and put in single bids so it sort of helped out and stretched out the bids I had left. Then about 3 others started with the bidmonkey. I sat back and watched for a while and decided to stop my monkey to conserve bids. The bidding went on for about 10-15 min then to my horror the dude I was up against all night got the GONE notice and won!
Couldn't F*@cking beleive my eyes. I reckon it's rigged. To have 3 others using bidmonkey to all of a sudden stop their monkeys at the same time and this other dude scores the prize was a bit suss to me.
But then again it just could have been luck of the draw!
Have been watching other bidding wars and see how they pan out to see if a pattern is emerging.
Must say i have noticed similar events take place, bidding has been going on, you notice on certain bidder going for it, as well as bidding on several other items. They, for what ever reason stop, then someone steps in bids a few times and wins!!!!
Is it a case of bogus bidders to pump it up, who knows.
Might give it another crack but with a set plan in mind this time, I have a few ideas the I want to try.
Also managed to score 54 free bids from admin but it still didn't help win the iMac!
As mako suggested, he with the most amount of bids in their monkey "should" win, just need to keep topping up if you want it.
At the end of the day, hey if it costs you $750 to win a $4000 item it's still a friggin bargain...IF YA WIN THE FOKER!!!!!
over and out!
EDIT.
forgot...
yes the server is in the states
and I have had no problem at all with any lag and placing bids
I'm on ADSL+2, bidding was from the macbook & WIFI.

Haha yeah im over it
And I won an Ipod shuffle. Exactly like saltydog said. Was in a bidding war from 0.02c on the hair straighteners the missus wanted, set the monkey up and then watched single bidders and then someone else set up a monkey. It went all day and I was running out of credits. There were heaps of single bids, so I turned the monkey off and 2 mins later the auction ended to my opposition.
Spewing. The way I look at it, I got a $110 ipod for 70$ worth of bids.
Adam, do what you gotta do to keep the site going, I dont care about the ethics of using a pay per bid site for revenue. We are all apparently grown up and if you want to have a flutter go for it. Im just happy I got in early and had a win before losing.
In a couple of weeks I am going to donate to the site when I can(the missus has the keys to the warchest until we can afford an engine rebuild in our landcruiser, and shes still pissed about the hair straighteners).

I've been watching this web
I've been watching this web site for a few months now and I'm not overly happy with it, it slows down my computer a lot and caused it to lock up as well. One thing I have noticed with it though is you sit up late after midnight, there's not as many on there then and items are easier to get.
Cheers

There has to be a better way....
Sorry but this just reaks of gambling and fixing... Better the devil you know than the one you don't. Support your local retailer or credible online outlet and pay market rates before you head off to the pawn broker for more credits.. IMO.
