BIG Eagle Ray

Pulled in a stonka of an Eagle Ray of Ocean Reef Marina tonight. Was fishing for Tailor/Mullas when my 40lb braid with 60lb leader started hurtling off my spool at an alarming rate. Locked up the drag full and this thing keapt pulling like a cut bull. Ran out about 100m of line, which I then proceeded to slowly, ever so slowly, get back. Got it back in about 20m out from the rock and bang, off she went again back into the distance for a second big run. 40 minutes of back braking pumping and winding, loosing line, and pumping and winding again I got her in to the side of the marina wall... where I then thought WTF am I going to do with it? Ended up getting as close to the hook as I can and just snipping the line and she went off tired, but in good health. Would have gone over 1m in diameter easily, around 2m long in length and pushing 50kg (was FAT).

Not exactley what I was after but good test for the new graphite beach combo anyway. Pulled in another small Eagle Ray (6-7kg) not long after, then called it quits as my back was burning like a mofo

Not a bad way to spend a Friday night.

If I was on the beach I would

If I was on the beach I would have walked him up, flipped him and then removed the hooks but he was just too heavy/strong to get close enough to from the rock wall and I didn't feal like taking a midnight dip with him ;)

Personally I reckon big rays are an underated sport fish. They pull as hard as anything else you could catch of land (metro). Good fun, and good eating if they're small(ish)... big one can go back though.

I think they are good fun to catch. Nice work.
Can onyone point me in the right direction to a graph for width to kg. I had one saved on my old computer, can't seem to find one again.
