Big fresh (not frozen) baits wanted
I bought a marlin outfit to use at Exxy in April and wouldnt mind to test it out in Perth before I head up there.
I do a lot of night fishing on my boat, but ordinarily just get small sharks (likely due to small baits). Looking to tangle with a big fella so wondering if someone can PM me details of a place where I can get large baits (around 3-5kg) that have not been frozen. A very big fish head will be fine.
I know people will tell me to stop being lazy and go and catch them myself, but if I do a sambo run or something to go and catch one, then it is unlikely that I will go out again that night for an overnighter for sharks, meaning that the bait will be sitting in my fridge for days/weeks before I use it, which isnt ideal.
Any help much appreciated!

The pick of the pack for big sharks has gotta a 2-3 kg mackeral that you can buy a 25kg box from polar bait in oconnor for $55 get about 20 fish in the box, thats whats been doing the damage for us shorebased anglers i cant imagine what kind of beasts youd find out wide...

Have heard a lot of blokes on the forum say that the fresh baits are the way to go and that once frozen they are not as effective.
Seemed to be the case for me the last time I went out at night. Was soaking 3 scalies on a hook for hours, no result. Switched to a herring and tailor head combo and had a shark on within 20mins.
Will try polar bait for those makkies though if i cant find anything fresh

Sharks
If you are chasing sharks the bait is best fresh. For some reason the blood doesn't have the same effect on sharks after being fron and thawed
Son and his mates in Exxie rig their baits then wrap them in cling wrap and freeze them so when they are out there all they do is tie it on and drop it in the drink letting it thaw as they troll.

Why Don't
you wait till you go to Exmouth and hunt around the filleting tables and bins, the heads and frames don't come much fresher than that.

Yeah I think up there I will be fine as ill be fishing every day and will have plenty of heads etc myself, but just looking for something in Perth to use as a bait to put my gear through its paces down here.

can get fresh tailor from the
can get fresh tailor from the shop at innalloo pretty cheap and when you only use maybe 2 baits a night its not that bad.... probably about twice the price of frozen baits i guess. worth it for me, dont have as much time for fishing as i used to so would rather know the baits the best available
having said that out deep they might not be as fussy dunno?
Down side is big baits wont stop you from getting small sharks. have caught an 8kg bonzie hooked on a 2kg tailor lol they are greedy little bastards

Heaps of tuna in the 3 to 5 kg range out there at the moment.

Boat only 5.5m, so if I hook anything big, it sure as hell wont be coming aboard!
