A Black Dog Called "Midnight "

A black dog was standing in the middle of a road in a town painted black ,the street lights were not working because of a recent storm, a car with 2 broken headlights was driving towards the dog but managed to swerve at the last minute,,how did the driver manage to see the dog in time ?
