Blown out at Abrolhos- :-)

took a spin over for a couple of days, leaving right on the end of the front on the weekend.

Took a mate from work and his young bloke as all mine except Mac were doing other stuff thru the holidays.

Micks young fella (also Mick ) hadnt been out far in a boat before but handled it like a trooper despite weather being less than perfect

A bit of westerly sprung up as we were leaving and the swell was quite big requiring a turnaround at Hells Gates and out thru Eves instead.

We managed 18 knots until about 5 miles from the islands and did a bit of fishing.

Needless to say with two Micks and a Mac onboard there was some confusion when the captain was giving out orders

The sharks had dropped off a bit from last time luckily so the young blokes could have a bit of a crack.

Mac got a new "proper" rod and spin reel and was keen to try it out-first up a skanky sand snapper then a 5kg dhuie which he worked up himself-he was chuffed.

As soon as we got to the island, the 2 lads took off with the squid jigs and BOOM

The seals had moved back in and provided plenty of entertainment for us all as usual, following us into the water.

When one of my errant spear shots went thru a plate coral he sat literally a foot from my shoulder then swam down and grabbed the shank and tugged on it for me.

Im always wary, but its hard to see any malice from this small fella-while Mick was hanging off the back of the boat he came right up and looked over his shoulder without Mick noticing.

Later the two boys tied a fish frame to a bit of rope in the shallows and he shot in and had a tug of war with them.

I lifted it up to untie it while he looked on like a dog playing then took it from my hand and swam off to play with it!

Fishing on the second day, we couldnt get away from the dhuies-maybe 10 or more of which Mac accounted for more than his share up to 6.5kg

Went for a spear and a troll without anything to note

Following day dawned at 25knots SE and stayed that way all day then southerly so decided to just stay another day-just chilled out, had a troll for a few trout of which the two lads pulled in up to 55cm

Wednesday packed up and waited til mid morning for a great run home-turned 20+ NW after we got home.

The 2 boys had a blast and big Mick (who I worked with both fishing and O&G over the years) hadnt been back to the islands for a few years.

Hey gillyL

Sun, 2014-12-07 19:38

Have you been to the Isaland yet? If not perhaps we could organise a tour for those of us on the fishwrecked site who have always wanted to go.

I am always blown away from the reports of the guys who get over to the Islands.

Lifelong dream is to get over there and just take in the beauty, anything else a bonus.

Anyone interested??????????
