Blue gomoku and stradic 5000
Submitted by Jimmysparks on Fri, 2015-01-30 15:41
What's everyone's opinion on this setup? Anyone used these two. I head out in a mates boat every now and then and want a light setup for 50m and under. Jigging, plastics and drift bait. Was hoping to use it for all three as I mainly land base fish. Probably spool with 30lb power pro, should be able to stop something decent. Any input appreciated. Cheers

Gomoku pe2-4
seen far too many snap mate. I might aswell just use my 7'6 squidding rod, its basically the same shit.
Even saw a pe2-4 get destroyed by a sub 10kg sambo under normal circumstances....... Just poorly made rods in my opinion, would much rather spend the extra dosh and get something like a Giant King or even a Eupro Alcohol (if you want ultra light)

I don't have a gomoku but have heard more than enough reports of them snapping unnecessarily to be wary of them. Can't go wrong with the Stradic though, great reel

I have the heavy pe2 to 4
I have the heavy pe2 to 4 matched to a certate 3000 running pe3 i use for jigging and soft plastics. Works well never had a problem but only used a few times. Will see how it goes over time but have landed 15kg cobia, pulled big trout in shallow water and plenty of sharks witout any signs of breaking. I run near full drag. Value for money and nice rods to use. It would be interesting to hear from people who have snapped them how hard they fish them. I have seen a few high quality rods snap but this is usually due to angler error.
Cheers

first rod ive ever broken!
first rod ive ever broken! and in my situation was jigging a 4inch placcy on 1oz elevator jig head had a small hookup and pop she went. very soft for sure and dissapointing. i no a enough about fishing gear to no this was not user error. the new rod you have came out recently and would hope they rectified the issues they were having. the biggest issue i believe is the length of the rod, i think its to short only my opinion but

With so many quality rods at very good prices it still amazes me how many people buy Gomoku's.....

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

I have that same combo
I have that same combo running PE2 line, caught some good snapper on it in the 70's, a couple sambos same size, and a duhie bout 60cm. ive heard a few stories bout people snapping them now, i also know quite a few people who fish them without dramas. makes me wonder how many people snapping them are high sticking them or expecting them to peform beond their rating.
I think us Aussies have a bad habit of leaning back on a rod to much, this is fine on heavy gear useing a gimble belt but light jigging rods are designed to be tucked under your armpit and lifted horizontaly, if you watch videos of the Assian guys over seas this is how they do it.
I have also just gotten the newer PE 2-4 gomoku (kodachi) this rod is a few inches shorter than the other ones and looks and feels much stiffer.

Took the new combo out on a mates boat yesterday. Storm went around us out near rotto, glassed right off. Landed two dhuies, not huge but dhuies are dhuies. Great fight on the lighter gear. Worth the money. Cheers
