Snapper have been the talk of the town for land based anglers for the past few weeks, with Preston Beach consistently producing good numbers and during the storms fish were coming from North Mole, Hillarys and the Mindarie rock walls.

There has been plenty of herring around the local beaches of late, with both Swanbourne and Cottesloe holding a large abundance of fish. Fremantle’s North and South Moles have fished particularly well for them with the Berley Cage Brigade out there in the mornings cleaning up!

Tailor have been quiet south of the river this past week with most tailor being found north of Perth around Mindarie and Two Rocks. Fish are falling to baits but there is nothing better than getting amongst them on topwater lures like Halco Roosta 135's and white Richter Plugs.

With the winter season in full swing, it has given keen anglers a chance to use the churned-up water and big swells to their advantage. Plenty of snapper being caught off Ocean Reef and Mindarie just beyond 3-Mile Reef. Provide yourself with a thick burley trail and drift unweighted baits slowly through the water column that’ll surely produce. All demersal’s can be found in shallower water this time of year with many Dhu’s being picked up in as little as 8m of water plastics and Micro jigs have worked extremely well.

Pelagic action is still in force. Bluewater Tackle World staff member Geoff Woodley-Page had made the most with the nice weather we have been having by tolling up little yellowfin tuna, it won't be too long before he finds some bigger fish amongst them!

With a lot of bait pushed up against Rotto there has plenty of big yellow tail kingfish off West End with the odd spanish mackerel being caught as well. Northern reefs have been doing well also for the kingfish with people being harassed by the hoodlums while snapper fishing. Lots of berley has been the key for both the snapper and the kingies!

This rain that we have been getting will start to push the bream downstream making them easier to catch. With the shortage of river prawns people have been substituting coral prawns and white bait and still finding lots of fish. Alternatively, if you've not tried lures yet for bream, Z-man 2" grubs and small hard body lures like Zip Bait Khamsin Jr work well both in the natural colour as the water will be getting darker with the water pushing down.
