Cade,

last week I had Melville Trimmers, Norma road Myaree do a new canopy and front clears, this is the second lot of work done by him in the last 2 years ( sold 1 boat & brought another ). He works by himself, been in business for some 30yrs or more. Quality work, absolutely. Price was not much of an issue as quality durability & fit were more important.

Do you have the bow frames yet?

Or do you just have a bare bones windscreen runabout? It will be an expensive exercise if you just have the bare runabout if you go custom all the way. Just the poly canvas top,in that picture , in good material wouldn't give you any change out of $500. And that is if you have the bow frame already. You really don't want to overcapitalise a relatively cheap boat--I'd be going for something like an Oceasouth bimini ready made  , and then having clears fitted. You should then be able to keep the overall cost down to *about * $700. And bear in mind that you are adding a massive amount of windage to a light boat, it may not react well in a fesh breeze . I know it's tempting to try to make a bigger boat out of a little one, but you can end up with spending a lot of money, relative to the boat value, to get an outcome which is marginal, at best, and bad at worst. Been there, done that

it was my grand fathers dinghy so I will never sell it so the cost is not an issue for me.

I have a bare dinghy with a windscreen, I basically just want a bit more protection from spray
