boat delivery - not good enough

Bit of a rant here. I recently bought a new boat. it was expensive but its what I wanted for years. Well the delivery wasn't the best. Some things you can live with but others things just burn you up like how the dealers put the boat rego stickers on. Very ordinary to say the least. I did complain so they mailed me out some more of the cheap and nasty variety to install myself.
Well after looking at my boat each day in the driveway and always seeing the crap stickers I ordered some custom ones and did it myself. My point is I shouldn't have had to.
here's the before and after pics.

Pretty poor but at least you managed to buy one. The last 3 times ive been into a major boat dealership I havnt been able to get served. Plus 2 phone calls for assistance went unreturned.
Guess things are flat out in the marine industry at the moment.

On the up side (if there is one) you will now look across at those great looking decals with pride knowing it is again, just the way you wanted it. If the ones they put on were straight, maybe you wouldn't have done it?

Mon, 2015-10-12 12:53

If that's the pride they take in their work with someone as technical as placing a few stickers straight I'd be going through the boat and checking what other shortcuts they may have taken.

I'm in the process of getting some nicer rego stickers made up too, did yours peel straight off or did you have to use a solvent?

Dealer not manufacturer

Mon, 2015-10-12 14:50

The manufacturer wouldn't have registered the boat. No doubt the dealership would have done the stickers so nothing to do with BarCrusher's build quality.

Try using hot water and pour it over the sticker, that normaly soften them up a bit and they come off easy.

Mon, 2015-10-12 14:41

Yep, I had a similar sticker issue with my boat. Not the installation quality though - I had the 100 hr service done down in sunny Perth at a reputable dealer which was fine. Picked up the boat and was happy with the mechanical effort and price, all ok. I did have a slight issue with a 2m x 100mm 'xxx marine' sticker down both sides though. Was pretty pissed to say the least, you wouldn't do it to a $130,000 car so don't do it to my boat!

Bar Crusher - great build quality

Mon, 2015-10-12 15:45

I'm stoked with the boat, just the delivery. It's the little things that leave you scratching your head. I still have sickaflex on my black seats from them and they also had to get the forklift to lift the front of the boat up to empty it of water when i went to pick it up... I'm just not interested in talking to them anymore and wont be going back. I had the first service done on the Suzuki by a company closer to home as well. IT's unfortunate that there is only two Bar Crusher dealers, one in Bunbury and one in Perth. I went to the one in Perth so I'll leave it at that..

Anyway I'm out and about in it around Cockburn and Safety Bay and Rotto this summer so say G'Day fellas.

Cheers JJ

Same company recently supplied and installed a 587 / 1kw in the boat. Handed over a handfull of cash, werent even remotely interested in running me through it. 1 week later finally got to put the boat in to test it out. Launched, parked the trailer jumped in fired up the new sounder, the gps and back up gps and no power to anything, all dead. Back on trailer, phone call to dealer on the way back and sat there for 1 hour while they rectified the "young blokes stuff up" nice for over $3 k spent. Never will i return, muppetts of the highest order

Yep that is the fuel tank breather. actually the fuel tank filling point is on the floor in the cab which I'm not keen on at all but I can't do anything with it. you have to park close to the fuel bowser and drag the hose into the boat and a bit forward of the dash. luckily the BP servo on Safety Bay Rd has the over head hoses so its easy to drag in.

I've been shopping for a Bar Crusher for past month. Sales person in Perth store has been brilliant trying to organise requests for me. Can't fault them so far, however sounds like the delivery and after sales side is not so good. With a 6 month wait for a Bar Crusher now, I guess they may not care as much as they should. Pretty much impossible to get hold of 2nd hand ones as well, Australia wide.

I'm not going to get into names but my experience with the sales person was nothing short of excellent. It all went downhill from there in a big way. Be very careful and scrutinise the boat before you drive out of the yard. Receiving all the manuals dumped into a cardboard box is just the start. "Oh, you will probably have a list of bit and pieces to be looked at after a couple of weeks" What sort of attitude is that and boy were they right.

I would never ever buy another boat from there. Had a few things fixed on warranty very soon after we first purchased the boat as well as some repairs (that we paid for but shouldn't have) - and the little wanker working there kept referring to us (me ands my two mates who i owned the boat with) as 'the coalition' or something similar. Will never set foot in that show room again. Tue, 2015-10-13 15:36

I recently bought a boat on consignment from Challenge Marine which had an issue which ended up being the result of the previous owner for some reason cutting and re-joining the wire between the trim and outboard.

The guys at Challenge Marine were nothing short of brilliant in sorting the problem out for me twice through a third party boat store when said boat store misdiagnosed the problem the first time and replaced the relay switch.

Never tried to squirm out of it and it was always “take it down and we’ll sort it out the cost”

Maybe but they were brilliant

Wed, 2015-10-14 07:28

Maybe but they were brilliant to deal with from the day I walked into the yard to look at the boat until I picked it up which included about 5 weeks of back and forward negotiations between myself and the owner who both dug our heels in over the price.

They also could have walked away when I took it down to a Suzuki yard in the area for a quote to provide Challenge marine to fix the problem and the yard went ahead and replaced a part without providing a quote and sent Challenge the invoice.

Maybe others had bad experiences with them but I'm happy to put my hand up and give them their dues in my dealings with them.
