boat floation
Hey guys,
recently snapped the helm in the boat and needed to rip the floor out to access the cables to replace the entire system, its a Savage 15ft ali centre console, middle seat removed and floor and console put in by previous owner.
needed to remove the foam from under the floor and stupidly threw the foam away thinking itl be easy to replace it with better stuff... well ive been doing alot of searching on the net to find out about the correct foam to use and have found so many
do's and donts that contradict each other its killing me!
does anyone know which boat floation :
is the most cost affective (fairly important)
will give the most floation,
wont disolve after fuel /oil and wont absorb water
reaction with the ali is also a worry
ive heard pool noodles are good but that could just be a rumour...
any help will be extremly handy and appreciated.

the foams must be closed-cell
the foams must be closed-cell foams
polyethylene and polyurethane foams are the best choices.
apparently there is a brand "microlene" which is one of the best......as for cost effective...?????
Australian Maritime Safety Authority has a website and some info on here.

FWIW pool noodles are closed cell foam but of varying quality and some will hold water after a while. I personally wouldn't use them unless I could check easily periodically.
