Do it on a cool day in the shade and have the applicater ( lambs wool ) a little damp. If you have bore stain on/under the hull, well thats a different story.
Fella's, i polished and painted boats for quite a few years and still polish the occasional one and the best polish i have used and still use is 3M Marine High Gloss and then 3M Finnese and then any marine wax to protect, using the 3M lambswool buff pad on electric buff, being careful not to get gelcoat to hot, once it goes brown then you need to repaint, be careful on the edges and around bowrail etc, good luck.
I just got a 50 odd year old Glasscraft Kingfisher.
It looks in reaonable nic for the age but maybe not given a cut/polish type treat for 20 or more years. Are these same polishes/treatments the go for the old girl too? You can see a bit of the 2 tone on the side there, guessing from some previous repair ot touch up. Not sure how to approach this, is this advice pretty much the same for mine as for a newer one?
You will probably need to rub the gelcoat back with 1500 wet & dry gently and drop a bar of soap into the bucket to help with ease of rubbing, then use the polish as mentioned before, you will be amazed at the result, i myself just sold my 1966 v19 deluxe glasscraft. Maybe just wet the gelcoat down
before you polish, just so the polish doesn't dry out too quickly

I got it online, and had great follow up service from the site's owner (Phil Gray)
http://www.boatpolish.com.au/
I got the "Used Boat Kit" to restore mine.
After the initial application you only really need to follow up with Dulon 1 & 2.
