all good
I don't see how if you have the correct size lettering and a contrasting background, how they cant be legal.
make me a set too!

I don't know about the legalioty but think Scotto is probably on the money. It would be good to make them with a thin layer of proterctive clear film on top. Mine have been slightly damaged from bumping against pontoons and even me with a little too much force with the buffer..

Travis89,
I've posted up a new topic on a quick way how to post a screen grab from Windows... Unfortunately this forum platorm is pretty limited with image posting and it's much easier to start a new topic.

Regulation
Regulation says no since the top of all digits must be no less than 75mm below the gunwale.
the number shall not be positioned under a flared bow of the vessel and shall at all times be easily visible, whether or not the vessel is under way;
This doesn't account for the heaps of boats you see with the numbers above the gunwale.

I read it a little differently. The regulation does not state you cannot have the number above the gunwale. It states:
"... where a vessel has the number marked on the hull the digits of the number shall be positioned so that the highest part of each digit commences at a point that is not lower than 75 millimeters below the gunnel of the vessel ..."
Certainly a circular style registration would not comply if located below the gunwale.

Hmm bummer. Really like the look of it.
I wonder if the rules differ over east or are these boat owners just doing it anyway. I might just put some on anyway, act ignorant...
My boat had the sticker way bellow 75mm and that's out of the factory. Probably 20 pluss years old tho.

yep, same same
I reckon nearly all boats I know of contravene this rule.
also, how much would it cost to knock these up trav? I'd be keen on a couple.

Generally charge a meterage
Generally charge a meterage rate, 600mm wide 30 to 60 dollars a meter depending on the complexity of the artwork. In this case be 30. At 550mm high x2 your looking at 1.2m. So $65 bucks In black. Any special colour I'll have to order in.

Ruling
the ruling states no less than 75 mm, that means 75mm or more below the gunnels and clearly visible

Not quite right there
It says "no lower than 75mm", not "no less than". Big difference.
I did then the best that I knew how. When I knew better, I did better.

DoT Sticker
Ive still got the 2016 DoT rego sticker on mine and got my safety gear checked by them and they said nothing. Doubt they even look at it.

Scotto no problem mate. EBay
Scotto no problem mate. EBay stickers I'm guessing are low grade vinyl. Otherwise they wouldn't be making any money on them. In saying that it's just a bloody sticker. I agree I couldn't justify spending that much on a rego sticker, just what it costs for the material. I'll see how much it takes to do mine, I might be able to do it cheaper for you.
