Boat servicing
Submitted by mrwinta on Thu, 2010-01-14 15:33
Would anybody like to recomend somewhere in the Rockingham area for me to take my Honda 4 to be serviced? I am fairly new to the area and a big beliver in that word of mouth is the best form of advertising. The last place I took it was very expencive and real poor customer service so hopefully you could sugest a friendly place that I could become a regular customer.
Cheers

servicing
Joel at midway marine is a really good mechanic. Was his apprentice for a few years before i moved to queensland. That last 90hp honda i serviced was around $650 that was engine oil and filter, gearbox oil, water pump impeller, both fuel filters, $80 water sep filter. thermostat and spark plugs. the parts for the jap engines, yamaha honda and suzuki are generally more expensive than the us engines, thats why service prices are generally higher.

try Arthur Page mobile mechanic. i got my baot done this year very cheaply considering he fixed more than just the service. i went to the mechanics in rockingham with one being very rude about the problem they supposedly fixed last year at a price of 2grand and yet again less than ten hours on the clock my problem arose again. arthur fixed it quickly and about 70% cheaper. cant say enough about him. but he is very busy

the jap egines
the jap engines may be more expensive but generally are more reliable and better built

Warranty
However the question is when the engine is under a warranty period will the manufacturer accept that maintenance has been undertaken by perhaps an unauthorised agent. I would think probably not so beware.

Just like a car
Provided it's serviced by a qualified mechanic warranty is not a problem unless of course it is a warranty claim for a repair.

$650 was mentioned
sounds fair to me...
being a mechanical tradesperson myself and servicing my own outboard id be buggered if id do someone elses for less than 650...
if thats the going rate jump at it
