hey guys
im having a few problems with my sounder, all of a sudden it seems to be getting no power to the unit this is the same with my bilge pump, i myself am not to cluey or game enough on any of the wiring to go start poking around, i did how ever check the fuses and from what i can tell they seem to be fine, i was just wondering if anybody knows a sparky thats quite cluey on boats that would be able to help me out, i would really prefer somebody that can come out to the boat instead of me having to bring it somewhere. if anybody knows somebody or if anyone could help out that would be great
cheers
luke

test
Luke if you can follow the wires up negative and positive to the terminal board/fuse board , Use a multi metre and test between the two points and see if you have voltage and continuity.
Are your other accessories working ?
May be the bilge pump and sounder share the same earth wire, all these can be tested quite easily with a multi metere as long as you can confirm what wire is what.
I am not a certified EC sparky but do have a restrited license and know a little about 12volt DC current

hi there mate I'm in
hi there mate
I'm in Wilson, so just around the corner, I'm a sparky so if you have no joy drop me a pm and I'll have a look if you want.
Boats are notorious for dodgy terminals or high resistance in terminals from the salt and corrosion. Give WD 40 or CRC the go, especially on your neutrals or earths

Not trying to burn people
Not trying to burn people with this comment but there is no nice way to say this.
I've had a couple of real sparkys work on my boat, real boat ones even. What they seemed to know was how to get the job done as quickly as possible.
What you want is someone that really cares, because as hunterdive points out, boats are a fairly harsh environment.
I wired half of my last boat because of that, and I'll wire all of my next boat for the same reason. I'll use tinned wire, glue-lined heatshrink, soldered terminals and probably grease over that to keep the salt/water off them.
