Boat "Yeah Bouy" found

Water Police have found the wreck of the boat that went missing several weeks ago after leaving from Woodmans Point.

Hopefully may help answer a few questions for the families involved.

Sadly 2 people are still missing.

Looks like the motor was trimmed out and the throttle was down. Poor bastards. Hopefully this brings some kind of closure to the family.

I was expecting some sort of catastrophic hull damage but it all seems to be on the deck and cabin, which could have well happened on the bottom.

at least thats something for the families but it still wont replace the ones lost.

cant seem to see the story but if no real hull damage like Swompa said it points towards being swamped by a big wave

I’ve seen some freakish waves

I’ve seen some freakish waves in that section of water where it pushed up from the 25-30m round the south side of Rottnest onto the FFB.

I came home from a big night on Rottnest one morning and the weather was way worst than forecast (WSW)but we had to zig zag and basically surf that section of water as it just climbed up! Was so pleased to get past stragglers and into the shipping lane

When I first started sailing

When I first started sailing off Freo in the 90’s, I always managed to get the sickest in the stretch of water around the windmills as once you are between Stragglers and Rotto, there isn’t all that much (other than Champion Rock I think it is)) to break the swell apart. Plenty of those rocks will spoil your day.

We have a similar instance of coming home from Rotto in a 25 knot sea breeze and I got green water in the back of the boat. Ended up making our way south of Parker Point then working our way into Carnac for a re-fuel. Was an eye opener to head home as soon as the sea breeze wakes up.

Considering the reports state the boat has been floated and is onshore (somewhere), I wonder why they are not specific as to where it was found? It was a rocky bottom in clear water so it was seaward of the smaller islands, but I wonder how far they got. Time will tell I guess

I wonder if it was a whale

Fri, 2018-11-23 10:38

I wonder if it was a whale breaching if the cabin is damaged? I very nearly got splaterated by a mata ray once just skimmed the tip of the bow as it came down I was at full throttle before it jumped direct in my path.
