Boating for a week - no flush
Hi all
Just chasing some quality opinions regarding flushing of the outboard motor. Whats happening is at Christmas I'm going down to Walpole for our family holiday and I'm taking the boat, hopefully to get out the back this time aswell as capitalizing on the brilliant inlet fishing there is to be had down there. Now although I've been fishing my whole life and boating for most of it, I've never been in the situation where the boat will stay in the water for 6 days straight. I just have a concern for the donk as it's allways been flushed out at the end of each day on the blue. The freshwater facilities at Rest Point are limited so I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the issue of not flushing the outboard after 6 continious days in salty water? Is it the case that consistant use prevents corrosion buildup?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Cheers all.

I wouldn't be concerned at all. Most of us (boat owners) can relate to this... Just trim the motor up out of the water when not in use & give it a good flush when you get home.

Same situation at Gnaraloo.
Same situation at Gnaraloo. And I think with the boat being used everyday the salt won't really get a chance to cook. Makes you wonder how the bigger boats get on? I gave mine a flush and sponge bath when I got home LOL

Dont rinse at all
You will find almost all Exmouth residents don't flush their boat engines as the calcium in the water has a worse impact on the out board than the salt.

Its the same in Hedland
Its the same in Hedland Adam. The mechanic see's more repairs from calcium build up than salt corrosion. Best thing is to use your boat regularly and try and find some rainwater if your going to park up for a while.

Motor flushing.
Joodles i stayed at rest point not long ago for ten days and left the boat in the water the whole time. If you are concerned about flushing your motor just do what i did and stole and idea from PETE D and just tilted the motor up, chucked on the muffs, tilted it back down so you dont make too much of a rakett every couple of days or when ever you want.
Cheers Gaz
check this thread , i just made the same.

Wont do any harm !
Joodles ....wont do any harm over that length of time.
If you are leaving the boat in deep enough water , I would leave the leg down not up.
as others have already said , the problems of corrosion are caused by a built up of salt depositsleft after the leg dries . If you leave the leg down and everything is still wet no salt deposits will form over a week .
Then give it a good flush at home . JMO

Im with Adds here
My neighbour owns a Commercial Dive Company Oceanics Offshore. Their boats are used all the time obviously and he came over and told me dont bother up here with flushing because calcium is nastier than sodium for the VIP parts. I still find it hard to resist but only flush mine if its not going to be used for a couple of weeks.
So the answer from my point of view is a week wont make any difference to the motor.
