bought a boat and need a general idea of what to do/target around perth?

 Hey guys

Ive just picked up a 17ft runabout, havent fished in Aus or Perth before.

Any advice on  what I should target at this time of year and how to go about it would be a great help.... also keen to put a couple of pots down is there anywhere that a beginner might do alright?

Cheers any help is appreciated

G'day and welcome. Probably best to drop into your local tackle store, if you're south of the river Oceanside is the place to go. Dhuies are the go if you want to range out a bit, or smaller stuff like whiting can be a good day out on the sand patches. Always worth dropping pots on any of the reef systems but metro you need to check them daily and early to beat the thieves :/ Good luck with it all.

Cheers so just a general look for some structure and fish the bottom? Ive heard jigging is quite big around perth? Also is there anything worth trawling for?

Are the pot thieves really that bad? If so thats a bit sad. Any good around carnac island area to try a drop a few?

Cheers ill drop in to oceanside

Was fishing on the back of garden island and there were around 30 odd floats on one 100m stretch of beach.

Personally, I had two pots out this season. Half way through, I had some bastard steal one....so I thought...only to dive on the rock where I had it and there it was, with about 3m of rope left.

So many smashed pots on the back of GI makes me wonder how many get nabbed.

2 or 3 years ago Fisheries set  two pots just of one of the sisters in Warnbro and hid an officer on the rock in camo with camera. That saturday morning photographed a dozen or so theives by mid day pulling pots illegally.
