 I've been using braid off

I've been using braid off the beach for about 7 years now and don't have a problem with it.  It tends to bow less when the south wester is blowing (which I think is mainly due to it's smaller diameter).  One thing I have learnt about braid over the years is that people either love it or hate it, but you should find it works well on the Penn 850 (I use a Penn 950 off the beach).

+1 beach fishing with braid.

I use the Penn SSM 750 and 850 and have no trouble. REMEMBER TO HAVE A FINGER COVER FOR CASTING. I use a riggers glove. 30lb braid in any high vis brand you care for. Bimmi twist for joining the mono both ends of the braid.

Some times when I get casting hard the bail arm droops a little, may be me, but it hasnt caused and break offs yet.

yeah mate best thing i ever did was use braid, you feel alot more nibbles that i think you would normally miss, your just going to have to get used to your sinker rolling around in the surf as you can feel everything

Thickness

I find using thicker braid for beach fishing is better, when choosing the braid I don't bother paying extra for for thinner diameter braid for beach fishing. Helps in casting with a spinning reel and also a heavy star sinker, comes off the finger better when launching the rig.

Ive learnt not to buy

Ive learnt not to buy expensive stuff.  Doesnt hurt as much when i get massive tangles from the braid rolling around in the surf and raking up every last bit of seaweed.

You can get 300yard spools of Fireline from Amazon for ~$35.

i use to buy fireline alot

i use to buy fireline alot but i have found over time it tends to fray quite a bit. i have now changed to sunline for all my light spin reels. i figured i would get tangles so im going to go for about 3m or so of leader before the rig and sinker. what do you guys who run braid do?

I think i have hi seas grand

Tue, 2013-03-12 13:23

I think i have hi seas grand slam in 30lb on my stradic, had no problems with it, got it at campbells they recommended it, anyone else use grand slam?

Its pretty cheap if you get it off ebay from the states by the look of it $40's, paid $80's here tho.

Just looking at buying a 1500m spool of 50lb or 80lb to load up my penn senator, and any left over onto my torium30, for lb sharks.

looking at either power pro / finns or maybe hi seas again, any suggestions? (sorry to highjack)
