Bream/light outfit

Hey guys, am looking at buying a light outfit for breaming, flicking chromies for herrings.

Was looking at the Pflueger trion, seems to get good reviews from here. Or should I put in the extra for a T-Curve T series?

Will there be a big difference in the 6'6 and 7' rods and difference in 1-3kg and 2-4kg?

For the reel I'm torn between the Daiwa Freams and Ballistic. 2000 or 2500?

Cheers

have a look at the FJ series of stradics mate, in my opinion, they are far better than freams and ballistics, and a bit cheaper too!

Will do, the Freams and Stradic are the same price and the Ballistic $30 more.

Would a Stradic Ci4 be better? Or the new Sustain?

The Trion is a very good rod.

The Trion is a very good rod. The Shimano Raider series & Berkley Dropshot series would be worth you looking at as well. All three rods are around the same price & all are excellent value. I chose the 6'6 2-4kg Dropshot personally & paired it up with a Stradic 1000FH. Fantastic little combo for the river. I've also got an Okuma Hardstone HS-30 on a 6'8 3-5kg Dropshot & it's great for flicking hb's for bream or flathead or for flicking slices in the surf for tailor. The Okuma is only an $80 reel but has 9 bearings, excellent line lay, a very smooth waterproof drag, a lifetime warranty & honestly is every bit as smooth as the Stradic. I'll probably get laughed at here but I actually prefer the Okuma to the Stradic.

The trions are great rods, there's no need to spend extramoney for a t-curve, you will be impressed. It's only really breaming and herring

so you need something thats light, resilient, smooth drag and a nice feeling to them. You aren't going to need a top reel as the elements are more likely to destroy your reel rather than these fish. So go with a stradic FJ, it's going to suit your needs moe than anything else at a decent price.

pick your reel first.

Thu, 2012-06-21 20:32

hi there,

i would pick the reel you want first, then put it on the different rods. some rods have longer grips, different reel seat positions and actions...etc. So put it on the rod and see what feels ok for you and ask the person helping you to hold the end and load it up a little. some of the ratings on the rods are all over the place, so actually feel it rather than read what is written on the rod.

i have a couple of high end light set up, but i never leave home without my berkley dropshot gen2 4kg bought for 60 bucks on clearance years ago and my old freams kix 2000. got me some honker breams with it.

happy fishing

Ballistic

Thu, 2012-06-21 21:51

I went from the Stradic Ci4 1000 to a Ballistic 2000, the ci4 didn't feel like a solid reel to me, and the play in the handle annoyed me. I'm not saying the ci4 is cheap, but the ballistic feels more solid to me

im the complete opposite, i reckon the ci4 is much sturdier and solid than the ballistics. Daiwa lost their attention to detail on the freams and ballistics.

Freams - silver plastic plate
Ballstics - Red Plastic Plate

havnt had a problem yet with my 2500 Ci4, and i bought it second hand too. The daiwa range in that price bracket just dont cut it with the shimano's. the only thing positive about the freams/ballistics, is the huge line capacity, and if your only using it for bream and the likes, you dont need it. Stradics are just a better built reel, because, well, they aren't PLASTIC!
