Brett ward Suzuki repower
Submitted by straith on Wed, 2021-02-10 19:55
Hey guys,
Getting quotes to repower my boat and saw references for suzuki to a guy named Brett Ward who was apparently well priced and competent... (i know right, a unicorn!)
Anyways last post i found was from 2017 and have found his name at "west coast suzuki"/ leisurecat in henderson and "bravo marine bayswater".
Any idea if its the same guy at both businesses or is one an old premises??
Im replacing 2 x 90hp 2 stroke mercs and would dearly love to swap for 2 x 90hp 4 strokes but $$$ will be a tad high so looking at single 150hp.
Also interested to hear about any other recent well priced good repowering experiences in perth.
Cheers

Pinjarrah
He was also in Pinjarra, I have heard many rave reviews about him and exactly the opposite.
All the houseboat people changed to Suzuki because he was sooooo good, then they all dropped him later apparently?

140
Paid 19k for 140hp 2020 zuke here in Karratha, replace and fit. Some pilbara tax and freight, but acceptable to what I saw around metro and other states and other brands.

I had great service and work
I had great service and work by Brett. He charged me $650 for a genuine trim motor fitted when All Boats wanted $1300. Was too hardbasket getting the tub to him 45 mins away after a while though.

Thanks everyone!
So any idea if hes part of both businesses?
Im north of river so bayswater address wouldve suited better but henderson is no big problem.
I spose Ill give them a ring tomorrow at westcoast and ask for him.
I gather they all get a bit busy and then the service drops off.
Very hard to please all of the people all of the time as the saying goes...
Happening to my long term guy now sadly.
@ Adam thats pretty much the ballpark figures i was looking at although not sure 140 will be enough for my boat. The brisbane yammy guys (ive been told by local yammy ppl) have more hooks in their deals than my tackle box lol.
Hard to know from our side of the sales counter what goes on.
I acknowledge its really bad timing as usual on my part.
Drug money being asked for anything leisure related.
Gunna have to change the spelling of "boat" to "boaft" " bring out another few thousand"
Cheers again,
will post my results for future reference

Brett Ward
Hi Straith
Last I heard Brett was with Bravo Marine in Bayswater. Had my 250 Suzuki serviced there a while back, but Brett wasn't in the Perth office, he was more regional. I think North, maybe Bindoon. Guys at Bravo can probably tell you. Cheers

Rang bravo marine yesterday about 4pm and was told that brett only does south of river and that "Will" was the person to speak to and that he'll get back to me with pricing.

side note
while brett was servicing my 200 yamaha , i happened to see cnr of my eye 1 young guy rushing back onto waiting scooter ... quickly went to Brett and suggested look in his vehicle in case something was taken & yes 2 mobiles & walet gone , short story is he had a tracker on his phone so we were able to track where they were , called the police and could not attend for 3 hrs. hopped in my vehicle went there and after 1 hr. of talking to a guy on a bicycle patrolling the complex with many others on the look out {good samaritan #%&* } he asked us to follow him as he knew where the ph. was ,so as to steere us away from where the mob. was , but brett said its in that house then magically the tracker was turned off , end result got only the mob. back .

Update
So nearly a week after i rang bravo marine and said i wanted to buy a 150hp motor and left my number for them to get back with a quote... Suzuki youve just made my choice so much easier.

Suzuki outboards
Not sure if everyone is aware, but Haines are no longer importing Suzuki outboards.
It has been taken over by Suzuki Australia on the 1st Jan 2021, and logic would have said that they would come in with a song and dance to announce the change given there has been a fair bit of uncertainty.
But not even a whimper, a dealer I know told me they have been ringing them to ask if they should still take orders for new outboards and if so what about prices?
He was told, "just use the old price list and we have plenty of stock".
The reality is that they seem to be spectacularly disinterested in outboards.
The last announcement on the change of importer/distributor on the Suzuki website was on 13 March 2020, just shy of a year ago.
They have an official Facebook page for Suzuki Marine Australia which is regularly maintained, also without any major reference to the change.
Unbelievable...

That should raise alarm
That should raise alarm bells with Suzuki's poor track record for outboards in Australia. Still a few around remembering how badly they were burnt last time.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

My 2 cents
Bought my 140hp off Brett in 2015 when he was still with West Coast Suzuki (was in between them and his business in Pinjarra). Continued to service with him/them until 2018 when I called up and found he had parted ways and was based only in Pinjarra. Stuck with West Coast but I notice my bills were suddenly $250 higher. I gave him a try for this year's service and he serviced my boat no worries as he does a Perth trip every week or so.
I have had no problems with him. Paid $16k for the motor in 2015 from memory

I've been using Brett for 20
I've been using Brett for 20 years and cannot recommend him highly enough. He has looked after my last 3 boats and his prices are very reasonable. He has serviced my Yamahas and now Honda and what he doesn't know about boats and motors can be printed in capitals on the back of a postage stamp.
Never had a problem with timing, just ring and organise a time to drop it in (which might be a week or more out due to workload) and it's usually complete within that week. This suits me. If you are expecting instant turnaround, forget it, he's a busy fella.
Works out of the industrial area at Pinjarra. Business name is Ward Boats. He does do mobile work as far as Perth but I guess he would pick and choose those jobs that require that amount of travel.
