Bunbury Fishing Spots

PM sent Adrian.

The fishing mecca that is Bunbury is actually fishing alright at the moment mate. Heaps of good fat Herring about the place, Mulloway to 20kg off the beaches and the occasional Salmon and good Tailor still about. If you're willing to travel further south there's some fantastic shore based options around too.

herring

Thu, 2009-04-30 05:18

hey adrian

use a long rod with light line, herring arent to fussy

with a floating blob followed by about 700mm of small leader to a small hook widegaps are good cos they tend to spit hooks very easy.  herring will take most baits with prawns, chopped up mulie, whitebait squid and maggots (if your keen).  the important thing with herring though is berly you can turn a desert into an oasis.  use some pollard and mix it with fish oil and water so it disperses when it hits the water, stuff some into your blob every cast and throw a bit around to get the scent in the water.

this method will also catch you gardies, tarwhine maybe whiting and proabably a few blowies.

sorry gotta go to work dont have time to cover the rest of the species you could target maybe someone else can, otherwise the local tackle store

just remember for herring berly is the most important thing

good luck

Welcome

Thu, 2009-04-30 08:00

Welcome to Bunbury Adrian, most of the beachs around town will hold fish at the moment. Best spots would be the rocks at back beach near Lighthouse. Belvadere, Buffalo beachs north of town just off the main bypass.Rigs to use would be running sinker either types Star, Spoon or Ball sinkers depending on surf conditions, hook size depends on what fish your target'n eg. ganged 3/0 4/0 for Tailor or bigger for Mulloway. My favourite rig is the Pananosta - which is with the sinker on the bottom of the rig with 2 dropper loops about 12 inchs apart with hooks attached to the loops this makes it easy to change to different hook size if need be. When your on the rocks or beach have a chat with other fisho's and check out there rigs and ask them what bait their using, it wont take long and you'll be in the know.

Cheers Kev.

Buffalo beach

Its over the top of the estuary off the scenic drive up passed Australind. There are small patches of rocky bottom so it pays to have a good look on mornings when the easterly is blowing to get an idea where they are.Not too sure if you can use 4x4 because its been years since I've been over there. We used to do all nighters on the north side of the cut at this time of the year for the chance of samson fish, big mulloway at night and salmon in the mornings

I use to live down there.

I use to live down there. When the Taylor are running it is great throw in a pilchard on gang hooks and hold on. Or even metal spinners. Down Capel way and stuff is a bit better. Strathem beach is GREAT fishing and just drive on in your 4WD. Right now it would all be fairly weedy and yuck but when it clears up its great. Beach fishing all over the place is good there. I found around town in the harbour and port i caught jack squat. Also, the bridge over the Collie River in Australind always did well. Bit of fun with small Mulloway and stuff. Im thinking about heading down there fishing for a few days soon just for the hell of it. Go back home. Such a nicer place than this busyness and stink of Perth!
